Strategic Summary:

Welcome to the softest CDP in a long time, as today I am featuring the Melffy archetype hot on the heels of the reveal of its new support wave in Chaos Origins. The Melffy archetype predominantly consists of Level 2 EARTH Beast monsters, that share an affinity for running scared back to the hand when the opponent does things. For example, Melffy Puppy returns to the hand when the opponent Summons or targets it for attack, before Special Summoning a different Level 2 or lower Beast from your Deck. In particular, this works great with Kalantosa, Mystical Beast of the Forest since that destroys a card when summoned via the effect of a Beast monster! While they only got a small 5-card wave of new support, each individual cards adds a new dimension to the deck, breathing new life into this heartwarming strategy – so let’s meet the new cards!

First up is Melffy Rabbys (YGOrg Translation), the core of the new support, which can either Special Summon itself from the hand and then Fusion Summon a Melffy monster, OR when summoned, it can tutor any Melffy monster and potentially Special Summon any number of Beast monsters from hand if you added Melffy Rabby. As they hadn’t had a Fusion before, their one and only option is the new Excited Melffys (YGOrg Translation), a Level 4 Fusion that targets an equal number of Melffy cards and cards the opponent controls, returning as many as possible to hand. Additionally, it can also Special Summon a Beast from the GY: another way to trigger Kalantosa! The next new Extra Deck card is Melffy God Mommy (YGOrg Translation), a new R2NK that can be made with 1 Melffy Mommy, and it tutors/recovers a Melffy S/T when Special Summoned. One such option is the new Exciting Melffy Time (YGOrg Translation), a Trap that recovers a Melffy monster then Fusion Summons any Beast monster! The other is our final new card, Melffy Statues Game (YGOrg Translation), which adds 4 Melffy monsters from Deck to hand before immediately proceeding to End Phase – such advantage!

Since the new support incentivizes running Melffy Rabby, a Normal Monster, it only made sense to start by including a Primite engine, but this is actually quite effective in here! Primite Dragon Ether Beryl doesn’t mind being your Normal Summon for the turn, as it can quickly turn into a free Fusion Summon of Primite Dragon Nether Berzelius and a copy of Primite Imperial Dragon to hand. Not only that, but it gives you consistent access to Primite Drillbeam, giving your Melffy backup in terms of disruption during the opponent’s turn. At the end of the day, this profile is just a great straightforward pairing that simply showcases the power of the new cards, without overbloating the archetype… it’s quite the Joyous Melffys occasion, no?
