CDP: Maliss Live Twin Cynet, ft. DBCB Support

Strategic Summary:

Today’s CDP features the debut of the Maliss archetype to my channel, and this time paired with the Live Twin theme. The Maliss archetype consists of DARK Cyberse monsters that all can Special Summon themselves once a turn after they’ve been banished, at the cost of a bit of LP; however, once you do, you are locked into Cyberse monsters. This does mean that pretty absurd combos exist: just take Maliss <P> Dormouse (YGOrg Translation) for example. When its on the field, it can banish any Maliss from your deck. This then allows the other Maliss to Special Summon itself, such as Maliss <P> White Rabbit (YGOrg Translation). When summoned, Rabbit sets a Maliss Trap to your field. They also have a special mechanic with their Trap Cards, where any can be activated the turn it was set as long as you banish a Maliss monster you control, so as you’ll soon see, this leads to the generation of a ton of Link Material for your summons. And boy, do you have a lot to do with all that material, because this theme has a trio of LINK-3 monsters it wants to summon.

First up is Maliss <Q> HEARTS OF CRYPTER (YGOrg Translation). This LINK-3 requires 3 monsters, but it carries a Quick Effect to shuffle a banished Maliss card back into the Deck to banish another card on the field. The other two only require 2 monsters, such as Maliss <Q> RED RANSOM (YGOrg Translation) which tutors the theme’s Field Spell on Summon, Maliss in Underground (YGOrg Translation). Lastly, there is Maliss <Q> WHITE BINDER (YGOrg Translation), which banishes 3 cards from the GY on summon, and can set a Maliss Trap. Even these Link Monsters summon themselves back when banished, making for a great combination with Accesscode Talker for example.

Now that you’ve met the new theme, let’s talk about how to support it. First up is the Live Twin theme, which is a very easy way to get 2 Cyberse material onto your board quickly. Whether you summon Live Twin Lil-La or Live Twin Ki-sikil, each summons the other on summon. From there you can branch into normal Live Twin combos if you open poorly, but the two material can quickly turn into much more if you happen to have another Cyberse monster or something like Link Into the VRAINS! I also love the double duty that Cynet Backdoor does for this strategy, as not only can it banish a Maliss to tutor another Cyberse card at virtually no cost, but it also lets your Live Twin monsters dodge interruption like Infinite Impermanence or Effect Veiler (while also letting the newly summoned Live Twin to summon a friend). The last noteworthy tech card I want to highlight today is Break Off Trap Hole, as it can be quite effective at clearing the board when you can Link Summon during the opponent’s turn using either Evil Twin Challenge or the GY effect of Code of Soul!
