I’m not going to lie, I’m a little disappointed in these cards:
– “Vi-FRND” seems to be more of an extender than a Boss Monster. In fact, I think it will be used more because of its Requirement (and I can see it used in other non-Psychic Decks). In essence, it is a glorified Normal Monster whose Effect is difficult to fulfill unless you play an Anime-style Romin-focused Deck.
– “Psykickoff Concert” received a buff and a nerf compared to its Anime version: now the Requirement is easier to fulfill than its Anime version. However, the Effect was nerfed compared to its Anime version: now only being able to Special Summon two fixed targets on “Prima Guitarna the Shining Superstar” or “Esperade the Smashing Superstar” (However, the mention of “Esperade for the Smashing Superstar” makes me hope that this Boss Monster receives a Fusion Monster: “Esperade the Smashing Superstar” is a very bad Boss Monster so any Effect that its respective Fusion Monster has is an improvement)
Vi-FRND is presumably the name of the band mentioned in Keytar Kid’s text and later featured in Back Beat and Stardom Light. Their 2500 ATK makes them compatible with Resolve and grants Psychic their fifth valid target for the card – the others being Esperade, Bandijo, Asport Pirate, and CAN: Re-D, making Resolve ever more relevant to their game plan. The effect is awful, but sending that many cards from the top of your Deck to the GY and being relatively easy to summon makes it a niche pick for certain GY reliant strats such as Chameleon, Zombie, Tron/Yggdrago, and Sevens Road.
Psykickoff Concert being completely reworked even with the more limited summon pool is surprisingly good news. Konami is willing to change an anime card even if it contradicts everything that was shown on screen, meaning even more situational cards can be released for certain themes without being held back by their awful effects. The card itself is very easy to set up and lets you reuse your Prima Guitarna for Fusions. In the late game Esperade can destroy your opponent’s cards. This also confirms my theory that Prima Guitarna and Esperade are connected not just in design but in lore – I suspected they were sisters at first but the artwork and reworked effect hints heavily they are the same person in different costumes. I hope we would eventually get a Fusion or two for Esperade, as she is the only one of Romin’s original three boss monsters to not get one.
