AFD makes a splash with so many Field Spells!

Welcome back for another CDP, this time taking a competitive look at the ABC theme and testing out a few tech options to see how the theme turns out! For those of you who never have experienced the ABC Union theme, it revolves around ABC-Dragon Buster, a Level 8 Fusion that is Special Summoned by banishing A-Assault Core, B-Buster Drake, and C-Crush Wyvern from your field or GY, and it carries a great Quick Effect to discard a card to banish a card on the field. What makes this theme special is truly the existence of Union Hangar, a Field Spell that tutors a LIGHT Machine Union on activation, then when a LIGHT Machine Union is summoned, it equips an appropriate LIGHT Machine Union from your deck to that monster. Combine that with options like Union Driver, and you can quickly get multiple Union Monsters onto the field, to send for various summons such as Link Summons, triggering their effects, then setting up for an eventual ABC summon. Now since this theme excels so much with its Field Spell, it only makes sense to maximize your opportunity to get to it, which is where Ancient Fairy Dragon comes in. This Level 7 Synchro Monster carries an effect to destroy all Field Spells on the field, before tutoring a new one from your deck. So with my build, you can use it to pivot from a Therion Discolosseum into Union Hangar, or even the ace in this deck, Kyoutou Waterfront.
That’s right, we’re bringing in the Kaiju. Kyoutou Waterfront is so essential to this deck for two reasons: first, it can tutor Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju, and secondly, it accumulates Kaiju Counters to be able to repeatedly use Gameciel’s negation effect. While this didn’t occur in my test duels, the amount of folks using Gameciel as a removal option for a fight against Kashtira is fairly high, which also means that you can turn that against your opponent with Kyoutou. Now, all of these around Field Spells is well and good, but how are we Synchro Summoning Ancient Fairy Dragon in the first place? Well I have two avenues. The first is Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frisson, which is a Tuner can be Summoned from the hand or GY, and it just happens to adjust its level to make a perfect Level 7 Synchro. I’m even using Dragon Ravine to ensure access to Destrudo, and since it’s a Field Spell, it works even better for AFD. The other route is to use the new Revolution Synchron (YGOrg Translation), which can be used as Synchro Material while in the hand with any of your A, B, or C Union monsters, when summoning a Level 7 or 8 Dragon Synchro, such as AFD.
