CDP: Dark World Danger! for the TCG, ft. Spellbound and Zalamander Catalyzer

Discard your reservations: Grapha has arrived.

    Strategic Summary:

Welcome back for another CDP, this time celebrating the release of the TCG’s version of Structure Deck: Dark World last week! If you missed my prior version of Dark World using the new support, check it out here: CDP: Devilish Gates to a Very Dark World, ft. SDR Devil’s Gate Support

Today’s build is all about refinement and seeing what the TCG environment and cardpool brings for the archetype. I’m going to begin with Zalamander Catalyst, a Level 4 FIRE Fiend Monster that lets you reveal itself and another Fiend in your hand – one of them gets discarded while the other gets Special Summoned. In short, Catalyzer serves as an additional copy of any of your Danger! monsters, such as Danger! Nessie! or Danger!? Jackelope?, but you are guaranteed to discard the other revealed Dark World monster. However, there’s another major upside – Catalyzer is reusable, as its second effect can easily trigger, adding itself back to the hand for use again on the next turn. The other TCG Premiere card I’m using here is Spellbound, a new Quick-Play Spell that pretty much ‘freezes’ all monsters your opponent controls for the rest of the turn. This is most effective when you combine Ceruli, Guru of Dark World and Silva, Warlord of Dark World, as your opponent is probably already on limited options, and Spellbound just makes them have to play even more creatively. To be blunt, many decks won’t be able to play well in those conditions, leading to an easy on-ramp to controlling the duel through a grind game of attrition.

The final new key card that I want to cover here that wasn’t covered in a previous Dark World profile on my channel is Muckraker From the Underworld, a new Link-2 monster that can Special Summon 1 Fiend monster from your GY while discarding a card from your hand. Obviously, this works extremely well with the Dark World archetype, but it also synergizes in other ways, such as being able to be Link Summoned using 2 Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World to be able to re-use their inherent Special Summon ability and bounce two more Dark World monsters back to hand. With any copies of Grapha or even Reign-Beaux, Overking of Dark World in the GY, you can even leverage Muckraker just as a way to recover a Dark World monster back to your hand, albeit in a convoluted way, so you are able to make the most of the multiple-discards per turn offered by the new Dark World Accession or Dark World Archives. When the darkness is calling – will you answer the colorless call?
