Creative Deck Profile: Experimenting with Mysterune, ft. DPTM Support

Enter a thrilling and milling maze of Spells.

    Replays:

    Strategic Summary:

Welcome back to another profile, this time centered on the Mysterune theme. The Mysterune is an archetype composed primarily of Quick-play spells, held together by their Field Spell: Spring of the Mysterune (YGOrg Translation). First, the Field Spell lets you activate Quick-play Spells during your opponent’s turn, but more importantly, following a successful activation of a Mysterune Quick-play Spell, you can return up to three Mysterune Quick-play Spells back from your GY to your deck to draw that many cards. The other non-Quick-play Spell of the theme is Deceit of the Mysterune (YGOrg Translation), a Continuous Spell that banishes the top card of your opponent’s deck with each Quick-play Spell activation. Between both of these threats, you will easily cycle through your Spells while banishing away the opponent’s deck, making this an alternate win condition theme by trying to deck out your opponent. As for the Quick-plays themselves, they boast a variety of disruptive effects from destroying Special Summoned monsters with Mysterune of the Brilliant Flame (YGOrg Translation), destroying Spell/Traps with Mysterune of Destruction (YGOrg Translation), or negating monster effects with Mysterune of the Freezing Curse (YGOrg Translation), then of course banishing extra cards. Or, each Mysterune Quick-play carries an effect to summon one of the theme’s Fusion monsters to the Extra Monster Zone.

For the Fusions, Muninn, Wings of the Mysterune (YGOrg Translation) protects your Mysterune cards from targeting, plus it tutors your copy of Deceit, while Geri, Fangs of the Mysterune (YGOrg Translation) recovers a non-Quick-play Mysterune Spell from your GY. Either way, these monsters offer more potential to ground the overall theme. So, let’s get back to my experimentation – I’m using the theme in two ways here. First is combined with some Jar FLIP monsters and other ways to quickly mill away the opponent’s deck, such as Morphing Jar, Card Destruction, and Trickstar Reincarnation. In other words, turbo mill style. The second build represents what happens when you want two ways to mill out your opponent, bringing in the Mayakashi archetype alongside the Mysterune to continuously trigger Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower endlessly to mill their deck while banishing it, for even more deck-out fun. Check both of these builds out, and hope you explore the cool new Mysterune theme for yourself as well!
