Blazing Destruction in the wake of Garunix!

Strategic Summary:

Welcome back for another CDP, and this time I’m diving back into the Fire King strategy. The Fire King archetype is best known for destruction, as many of its cards destroy a FIRE monster in your hand or on your field to achieve a goal, then many of its other cards trigger when destroyed. Take Fire King High Avatar Kirin for example, which destroys any FIRE to Special Summon itself from hand, then when destroyed, it Special Summons a different Fire King from hand/GY before destroying any card on the field. That said, these effects of the Fire King monsters don’t work in isolation, as Sacred Fire King Garunix can Special Summon itself from the hand or GY whenever any of your FIRE monsters are destroyed by battle or card effect, then when summoned, it destroys a FIRE Winged Beast, Beast, or Beast-Warrior in your Deck. To supercharge this strategy even further, Fire King Courtier Ulcanix destroys any FIRE monster before tutoring one of the relevant Types, giving you a way to search and trigger Sacred Garunix with one summon!

Given the destruction, this theme naturally pairs well with a small Jurrac engine, and I’m certain this is nothing new to the community given that this hybrid build has been seen competitively in the past. You see, Jurrac Megalo is a FIRE monster that when destroyed, sends Jurrac Astero from the Extra Deck to the GY. This is important, as Astero can banish itself and any other Jurrac to faux-Synchro Summon Jurrac Meteor to destroy all cards on the field during the opponent’s turn. It’s also perfect for destroying your own cards, so this truly is an ideal match. I did take it a touch further than the normal by including Miscellaneousaurus and Ground Xeno as well, both of which give you better access to the Megalo engine.

So if you’ve seen this before, why build it now and why feature it on my channel? Well first off, the new Spell Card Doll Hammer (YGOrg Translation) is a perfect fit. Doll Hammer can target any monster you control, then destroy it to draw 2 cards. Additionally, it even adds itself back to hand whenever any monster is Special Summoned from the GY. Both effects are ideal for many strategies, but for the Fire King in particular, this lets you dig to get to more of your non-engine options such as Dominus Impulse or Infinite Impermenance. Combine that with another recent card in Infernal Punisher, a Normal Spell that can Special Summon any Level 6 or higher FIRE monster from Deck or GY, and you’ll find interesting ways to trigger Fire King effects even when your Fire King Island was disrupted or removed. Lastly, all of these options work extremely well in tandem with the new Diabrocken the Ominous Specter coming to the TCG soon in BLZD, giving the Fire King strategy an actual negate rather than just destruction. Burn the opponent to the ground with the new and improved Fire King deck!
