Strategic Summary:
Today’s CDP features the return of both the Elfnote and Kewl Tune strategies to my channel, as both happened to get great support in the BLZD core set! The Elfnote strategy aims to cycle monsters in and out of the center Main Monster Zone, as most of their monsters can be Special Summoned from the hand to that Zone on your turn, or swapped into that Zone during the opponent’s turn. Also, Elfnote Lucina, Elfnote Tinia, and Elfnote Fortuna each add significant consistency to the theme, since each access an Elfnote Monster, Spell, or Trap respectively. Adding to this trio is the new Level 6 Elfnote Regina (YGOrg Translation), a Level 6 WIND that can Summon itself during either player’s turn by sending an Elfnote card from your hand/field to the GY. Then, if summoned to the center Zone, it Special Summons another Elfnote monster from the deck. Any of these combine well with Elfnote Power Patron, which then unlocks Synchro Summoning for the theme!
Alright, enough about the Elfnotes, let’s talk about the Kewl Tunes, but before I get into it, be sure to check out my first Kewl Tune profile here if you want to see them in full force: https://youtu.be/D1KsFO6NEag . Now that you’re back, the Kewl Tune theme has received one new Main Deck card in BLZD, and that is Kewl Tune Rotary (YGOrg Translation), a Level 1 Tuner that lets you peek at your opponent’s hand then tutor any Kewl Tune S/T when sent to the GY as Synchro Material. This rounds out the Kewl Tune lineup quite well, especially once you realize that Synchro Overtake can now summon any of the Kewl Tunes you would want to summon due to the addition of Kewl Tune Crackle (YGOrg Translation), another Level 5 Synchro for the theme that happens to list Kewl Tune Clip as material. The bigger addition in the Extra Deck is a solid Synchro Tuner boss in Kewl Tune Back 2 Back (YGOrg Translation), a Level 10 Tuner Synchro that lets all Tuners attack twice, as well as responding to an opponent’s monster effect by Special Summoning or adding back to hand a non-Level 10 Tuner from your GY or Banishment. Of course you can combine this with Zalen the Shackled Dragon and all of the other Kewl tricks, but this can really shine by letting you recover one of the best new hand Traps – Fidraulis Harmonia (YGOrg Translation). This Level 7 DARK Dragon Tuner responds to an opponent’s monster effect, revealing itself and 5 Synchro Monsters in your Extra. Assuming you do, it Special Summons itself, it sends one of the revealed Synchros to the GY, and it destroys a monster the opponent controls… not bad for a single effect! The power of music compels you to try the Elfnote and Kewl Tunes together!
