CDP: Burning Abyss Millennium, post-DUAD Support

Strategic Summary:

Today’s CDP features the new Burning Abyss generic support debuting for the TCG in Duelist Advance, and boy does this new support wave give this deck new life. The Burning Abyss theme of DARK/Fiend monsters has been at the fringe of viability since its introduction, as it has so much innate combo potential, so let’s talk about how these new cards can push it over that edge into rogue territory. First up is Buio the Dawn’s Light, a Level 3 DARK Fiend that can Negate a Fiend effect monster and Special Summon itself from the hand. While it is onboard, your left-right zones are protected from card effects, eliminating the Burning Abyss weakness. When sent to the GY, it even tutors the new Mutiny in the Sky, a Fusion Spell for Fairy or Fiend monsters that shuffles material from the GY, and can recover itself for re-use in a future turn. This is the ideal way to summon Luce the Dusk’s Dark, a Level 8 Fiend Fusion that also protects the left-right zones, as well as carries two effects to destroy a card on the field. This may not seem like much at first glance, but combining all three of these new cards together with existing Burning Abyss combos is quite powerful.

That said, my build doesn’t just showcase old options – it also shows new tech cards that I think might be viable long-term for the Burning Abyss. First up is the Millennium engine, featuring Wedju Temple, Golem that Guards the Millennium Treasures, and Sengenjin Wakes from a Millennium. If you’re unfamiliar, any single card from this 5-card engine with any other Monster Card results in 2 Level 8 monsters for The Zombie Vampire. With the mass milling from that, the milling from Dante, Traveler of the Burning Abyss, and the deliberate sending of Level 3 monsters to the GY with Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss, you will have plenty of material to embrace your deepest Burning Abyss fantasies. As an additional suite of techs, I’ve also included a Trap engine, with Dragon’s Mind, Breakthrough Skill, Lost Wind, Titanocider, and Rise to Full Height, all of which still perform after being sent to the GY to advance your gameplan. Lastly, I’ve also included Versago the Destroyer, a Level 3 Fiend Fusion substitute, so you can unlock Grapha, Dragon Overlord of Dark World with either Mutiny in the Sky or Tearlaments Havnis.
