Strategic Summary:
It’s been a while, but welcome back for the latest entry in my RDP video series, this time focusing on a Purely P.U.N.K. build. The P.U.N.K. archetype debuted in the Grand Creators as a type led by Level 3 Psychic Tuners and various Level 8 monsters to unlock Level 11 Synchro Summons. Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin is the soul of the archetype, tutoring any other P.U.N.K. monster at the low cost of 600 LP. Getting to this monster is especially easy nowadays, as we have Emergency Teleport back at 3, in addition to Noh-P.U.N.K. Ogre Dance, which tutors a P.U.N.K. monster by sending itself to the GY, or Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune, which summons a P.U.N.K. from the deck by sending itself and another card from your hand to the GY. In the second wave of support, the theme also received a beautiful new monster Noh-P.U.N.K. Dia Note (YGOrg Translation), which is a Level 5 Warrior that can summon itself from the hand as well as recover fallen P.U.N.K. monsters when sent from the Field to the GY. This gave the theme access to Level 8 Synchro monsters and some neat combos, but this is nothing like what was unlocked by the new support in Power of the Elements.
Before I get too far into that, let me cover the other primary P.U.N.K. tuners. Joruri-P.U.N.K. Madame Spider pays 600 to tutor P.U.N.K. trap cards, such as Jorurir-P.U.N.K. Dangerous Gabu, which searches as a way to negate the effects of an opponent’s effect monster. On the other hand, Gagaku-P.U.N.K. Wa Gon tutors Spells, but since the original wave of P.U.N.K. spells was so useless, this didn’t offer much to the theme… Until POTE, that is. P.U.N.K. JAM Extreme Session (YGOrg Translation) is the new Field Spell for the theme, offering insane card draw and extending capabilities. For each time you pay LP to activate a Psychic monster effect, you get to draw a card. Yup, that’s any of your core P.U.N.K. monsters, and you can even make use of this effect twice per turn. Additionally, Extreme Session can banish any P.U.N.K. card from your GY to Special Summon a P.U.N.K. from your hand, and this effect is only a soft once-per-turn. The other new support card is P.U.N.K. JAM Dragon Drive (YGOrg Translation), the theme’s Level 8 Synchro that tutors any Level 3 Psychic upon Synchro Summon, in other words, it is a direct Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit tutor. Combine this with the field-clearing offered by Ukiyoe-P.U.N.K. Amazing Dragon, and you have yourself a multi-faceted archetype ready to jam your opponent into the dirt. Embrace non-conformity with the P.U.N.K. art style!
