“If Cyberdark Wurm is in the Spell & Trap Zone, is it treated as Cyber Dragon?”
Q: If Cyberdark Wurm is in the Spell & Trap Zone due to another effect, will its name still become “Cyber Dragon” due to its own effect?
A: It is not treated as such. The effect of Cyberdark Wurm is applied as a monster effect, so it is not applied while it is treated as a Spell Card, and its name will be “Cyberdark Wurm” instead of “Cyber Dragon”.
For example, you cannot use a Cyberdark Wurm in your Spell & Trap Zone to pay the cost of activating the second effect of Cyber Jormungandr.
Similarly, if the following monsters are in the Spell & Trap Zone, their effects are not applied:
Treated as “Cyber Dragon”
– Proto-Cyber Dragon
– Cyber Dragon Core
– Cyber Dragon Drei
– Cyber Dragon Vier
– Cyber Dragon Herz
– Cyber Dragon Nachster
– Cyber Dragon Sieger
Treated as “Harpie Lady”
– Harpie Queen
– Harpie Dancer
– Harpie Channeler
– Harpie Harpist
– Harpie Oracle
– Harpie Perfumer
– Cyber Slash Harpie Lady
– Harpie Conductor
Treated as “Fallen of Albaz”
– Albaz the Ashen
– Albion the Shrouded Dragon
– The Bystial Aluber
Treated as “Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast”
– Chimera the King of Phantom Beasts
– Chimera the Illusion Beast
– Berfomet the Mythical King of Phantom Beasts
Treated as “Red Dragon Archfiend”
– Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend
– Scarred Dragon Archfiend
Treated as “SPYRAL Super Agent”
– SPYRAL Tough
– SPYRAL Double Helix
Treated as “Dark Magician”
– Magician of Chaos
– Dark Magician the Dragon Knight
Treated as “Blue-Eyes White Dragon”
– Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon
“Can I activate Double Summon during a turn I cannot perform a Normal Summon/Set?”
Q: Can I activate the effects of Double Summon, Chain Summoning, or Floowandereeze & Snowl during a turn I Special Summoned Lava Golem?
A: No, you cannot.
The effects of Double Summon, Chain Summoning, and Floowandereeze & Snowl also cannot be activated during a turn you activated any of the following effects:
– Red-Eyes Wyvern
– Umbral Horror Ghost
– Hi-Speedroid Kendama
– Miracle Fertilizer
– Accellight
– Hidden Armory
– Golden Castle of Stromberg
Furthermore, the effects of Double Summon, Chain Summoning, and Floowandereeze & Snowl cannot be activated if the following effects are applying:
– Performage Stilts Launcher
– Apex Predation
– Quiet Life
– A Wild Monster Appears!
– Spell Gear
– Boss Rush
– Contract with Don Thousand
Lastly, the effects of Double Summon, Chain Summoning, and Floowandereeze & Snowl cannot be activated if you have Special Summoned any of the following monsters this turn:
– Volcanic Queen
– Grinder Golem
“Can I Tribute a monster unaffected by card effects to Special Summon Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju?”
Q: When Special Summoning Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju using its first effect, can I Tribute my opponent’s The Arrival Cyberse @Ignister, whose Continuous Effect makes it unaffected by card effects?
A: Yes, you can. (When you Special Summon Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju using its first effect, the effect is not treated as applying your opponent’s monsters.)
Similarly, if you Special Summon the following monsters using their effects, you can Tribute monsters that are unaffected by other cards’ effects:
– Surgical Striker – H.A.M.P.
– Jizukiru, the Star Destroying Kaiju
– Gadarla, the Mystery Dust Kaiju
– Radian, the Multidimensional Kaiju
– Dogoran, the Mad Flame Kaiju
– Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju
– Thunder King, the Lightningstrike Kaiju
– Santa Claws
“If an effect that prevents cards from being banished is applying when resolving the effect of Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries, how does its effect apply?”
Q: Can I activate the effect of Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries while an effect that prevents cards from being banished, such as Imperial Iron Wall, is applying? Also, what happens if Imperial Iron Wall is chained to the effect of Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries?
A: The effect of Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries cannot be activated if cards cannot be banished. Also, if Imperial Iron Wall or a similar effect is chained to the effect of Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries, so that the effect preventing cards from being banished is applying, you resolve the effect by revealing a card in your Extra Deck, then looking at your opponent’s Extra Deck.
Similarly, if the effect of Imperial Iron Wall is applied by chaining it to the following effects, you apply the part of the effect that looks at/reveals a card(s), and the effect finishes resolving:
– Deep Sea Minstrel
– Berlineth the Firestorm Vassal
– Silverrokket Dragon
– Kashtira Unicorn
– Number 89: Diablosis the Mind Hacker
– Abyss Script – Fire Dragon’s Lair
– Goddess Urd’s Verdict
– Magellanica, the Deep Sea City
– D.D. Designator
– Appointer of the Red Lotus
– Kashtira Preparations
“If the activation of a monster effect is negated, does it count toward the number of times a monster effect was activated for the effects of Invoked Caliga or “Mulcharmy” monsters?”
Q:
(A) While the effect of Invoked Caliga is applying, and the activation of an opponent’s monster effect is negated by Solemn Strike, can my opponent activate another monster effect this turn?
(B) When I activate the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos during a turn I have not yet activated the effect of a “Mulcharmy” monster, the activation is negated by Solemn Strike. After that, if I activate the effect of a second Mulcharmy Fuwalos, can I also activate the effect of a third Mulcharmy Fuwalos that turn?
A:
(A) Your opponent cannot activate another monster effect. (Even if the activation of an opponent’s monster effect is negated by Solemn Strike, it still counts for the effect of Invoked Caliga, so your opponent cannot activate any new monster effects that turn.)
(B) You cannot activate the effect. (The text “You can only activate 1 other “Mulcharmy” monster effect, the turn you activate this effect” still includes the “Mulcharmy” monster whose effect activation was negated.)
The following cards’ texts also include the activation of a “Mulcharmy” monster whose effect activation is negated:
– Mulcharmy Purulia
– Mulcharmy Meowls
“Can I Tribute Evilswarm Ophion to Special Summon Laval Golem?”
Q: Can I Tribute my opponent’s Evilswarm Ophion with Xyz Material to Special Summon Lava Golem?
A: No, you cannot. (This is because the effect of Evilswarm Ophion “while this card has Xyz Material, Level 5 or higher monsters cannot be Special Summoned” is applying, and the Level 8 Lava Golem cannot be Special Summoned.)
You also cannot Tribute an Evilswarm Ophion whose Continuous Effect is applying to Special Summon the following monsters:
– Surgical Striker – H.A.M.P.
– Predaplant Banksiogre
– Predaplant Drosophyllym Hydra
– Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju
– Jizukiru, the Star Destroying Kaiju
– Gadarla, the Mystery Dust Kaiju
– Radian, the Multidimensional Kaiju
– Dogoran, the Mad Flame Kaiju
– Kumongous, the Sticky String Kaiju
– Thunder King, the Lightningstrike Kaiju
– Santa Claws
– Volcanic Queen
“What happens to the effect of Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters if the effect of Forbidden Lance is applied?”
Q: If I activate Forbidden Lance by chaining to the effect of Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters and target a monster that was just Normal or Special Summoned, can that monster attack or activate its effects? Also, if I activate Forbidden Lance and target a monster that has already had the effect of Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters applied to it, can it attack or activate its effects?
A: If the effect of Forbidden Lance that was chained to the effect of Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters is applied to a monster that was Normal or Special Summoned, the effect “that monster cannot attack” will not be applied to that monster, but that monster’s effects still cannot be activated.
If Forbidden Lance is activated, and its effect is applied to a monster that cannot attack or activate its effects due to the effect of Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters, that monster will remain unable to activate or activate its effects.
“Can I activate the effect of Maxx “C” during a turn the effect of Droll & Lock Bird is applying?”
Q: Can I activate the effect of Maxx “C” during a turn the effect of Droll & Lock Bird, “cards cannot be added from either player’s Main Deck to the hand”, is applying?
A: Yes, you can. However, if that effect would make you draw a card, you do not actually draw. (The same applies if you activate the effect of Droll & Lock Bird during a turn the effect of Maxx “C” is already applying.)
The following effects can also be activated during a turn the effect of Droll & Lock Bird is applying, but you will not be able to draw any cards:
– Mulcharmy Purulia
– Mulcharmy Fuwalos
– Mulcharmy Meowls
– Super Rejuvenation
– Shared Ride
“If the activation or effect of a Trap Card that was Set this turn while the effect of Temple of the Kings is applying was negated, can I activate another Trap Card?”
Q: Bottomless Trap Hole and Raigeki Break that were both Set this turn are currently in my Spell & Trap Zone. In this situation, if the activation or effect of Bottomless Trap Hole that was activated by applying the effect of Temple of the Kings is negated, can Raigeki Break then be activated by applying the effect of Temple of the Kings?
A: Even if the activation or effect of a Trap Card activated by applying the effect of Temple of the Kings is negated, the effect of Temple of the Kings was already applied that turn, so you cannot activate a second Trap Card using the effect of Temple of the Kings.
<The above ruling applies after January 1, 2015>
Also, the same applies if you activate a Trap Card during the turn it was Set by applying the effect of Labrynth Cooclock, and the activation or effect of that card is negated.
“What happens if the monster Fusion Summoned by the effect of Brilliant Fusion is no longer face-up in the Monster Zone?”
Q: What happens if a Gem-Knight Lady Lapis Lazuli that was Fusion Summoned by the effect of Brilliant Fusion is changed to face-down Defense Position, or temporarily banished and returned to the Monster Zone?
A: The effect of Brilliant Fusion is no longer applied. Therefore, the ATK/DEF of Gem-Knight Lady Lapis Lazuli will return to 2400/1000, and it will not be destroyed if Brilliant Fusion is leaves the field afterward.
Furthermore, the effect of Brilliant Fusion that increases the Special Summoned monster’s ATK and DEF can no longer be activated.
“If the only monsters I control are The Legendary Fisherman and Guardian Kay’est, how can my opponent attack?”
Q: If Umi is in my Field Zone, and The Legendary Fisherman and Guardian Kay’est are face-up in my Monster Zone, how is the attack target chosen when my opponent’s monster attacks?
A: The attack will be a direct attack. (Neither The Legendary Fisherman nor Guardian Kay’est can be targeted for an attack by your opponent’s monsters.)
Similarly, if an opponent’s monster attacks while you only have the following monsters in your Monster Zone, the attack will be a direct attack:
– Sunavalon Dryas
– Sunavalon Dryades
– Sunavalon Daphne
– Sunavalon Melias
– Sunavalon Dryatrentiay
– Sunavalon Dryanome
– Monsters Special Summoned using the first effect of Dark Sanctuary
– Monsters with the second effect of Realm of Danger! applied to them
– Monsters with the effect of Altergeist Camouflage applied to them
“Can monsters that are unaffected by card effects attack The Legendary Fisherman?”
Q: Can a Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes, with the Continuous Effect “unaffected by other cards and their effects”, attack The Legendary Fisherman whose effect “While “Umi” is on the field, this card is unaffected by Spell effects and cannot be targeted for attacks, but does not prevent your opponent from attacking you directly” is applying?
A: No, it cannot. (The effect of The Legendary Fisherman is not one that affects the attacking monster.)
Monsters that are unaffected by card effects also cannot attack the following monsters:
– Sunavalon Dryas
– Sunavalon Dryades
– Sunavalon Daphne
– Sunavalon Melias
– Sunavalon Dryatrentiay
– Sunavalon Dryanome
– Guardian Kay’est
– Monsters Special Summoned using the first effect of Dark Sanctuary
– Monsters with the second effect of Realm of Danger! applied to them
– Monsters with the effect of Altergeist Camouflage applied to them
“What happens if I activate Hero Mask targeting Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss?”
Q: I activated Hero Mask targeting Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss. In this case, will the effect of Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss that destroys itself apply?
A: In this scenario, due to the effect of Hero Mask, the card name of Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss becomes the same as the “Elemental HERO” monster sent from the Deck to the GY, and it is no longer treated as a “Burning Abyss” monster. Therefore, Graff, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss is destroyed by its own effect.
The same applies if the effect of Hero Mask is applied to the following monsters:
– Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Alich, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Draghig, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Calcab, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Cagna, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Barbar, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Rubic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
– Libic, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss
“If the name of Celtic Guard of Noble Arms is changed, is it still always treated as a “Celtic Guard” card?”
Q: Hero Mask was activated targeting Celtic Guard of Noble Arms, and its name becomes “Elemental HERO Neos” until the End Phase. In that case, what is Celtic Guard of Noble Arms treated as?
A: It will only be treated as “Elemental HERO Neos”. In this case, its card name is no longer treated as “Celtic Guard of Noble Arms”, so it is no longer treated as a “Celtic Guard” card. (When the effect of Hero Mask stops applying, it returns to its original state.)
Furthermore, if the effects of Number 69: Heraldry Crest – Dark Matter Demolition or Heraldry Flash are applied to Celtic Guard of Noble Arms, its card name becomes “Unknown”, so it is no longer treated as a “Celtic Guard” card by its rule text.
The same applies if the effects of Hero Mask, Number 69: Heraldry Crest – Dark Matter Demolition, or Heraldry Flash are applied to the following cards:
– Diabellstar the Sin Adjudicator
– Diabellstar the White Witch
– Queen Azamina
– Lacrima the Crimson Tears
– Abyssrhine, the Atlantean Spirit
– Heart of the Blue-Eyes
– Dragon Spirit of White
– Combined Maneuver – Engage Zero!
– Pillar of the Future – Cyanos
– Surgical Striker – S.P.E.C.T.R.A.
– Guiding Quem, the Virtuous
**Note: In the OCG, Celtic Guard of Noble Arms is not a “Celtic Guard” card by name. Instead, it has a line of rule text (or an “archetype clause”) similar to the other listed cards that always treats it as one. This ruling explains how name-changing effects interact with such rule text, even though Celtic Guard of Noble Arms doesn’t have that text in the TCG (as it was simply made a “Celtic Guard” card through its printed name). There are a few other cards in a similar boat, like Number 39: Utopia Beyond, Twilight Ninja Nichirin, the Chunin, and the “Superheavy Samurai” Synchro Monsters. As the ruling explains, the rule text is tied to the printed name of the card, so there is no real functional difference.
“What happens if I have no “Cubic” monsters in my hand when resolving the effect of Cubic Rebirth?”
Q: My opponent’s Gold Gadget declares a direct attack while I have a Level 4 or lower “Cubic” monster in my hand, and I activate Cubic Rebirth. If an effect chained to that activation leaves me with no Level 4 or lower “Cubic” monsters in my hand, how does the effect of Cubic Rebirth resolve?
A: The following effects are applied as written: “Your opponent Special Summons, in Attack Position, as many monsters as possible from their hand, Deck, and/or Graveyard with the same name as that monster”, “the ATK of the targeted monster and those Special Summoned monster(s) become 0”, and “place 1 Cubic Counter on each”. The effect then finishes resolving. (Since there are no Level 4 or lower “Cubic” monsters in your hand, the part of the effect “Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower “Cubic” monster from your hand, ignoring its Summoning conditions” is not applied.)
Furthermore, since the last action to occur was the Special Summon of Gold Gadget due to the effect of Cubic Rebirth activated as Chain Link 1, the effect of a Special Summoned Gold Gadget can be activated in a new Chain. (However, the effect is negated.)
“When Shaddoll Fusion is activated, can the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring be chained?”
Q: When Shaddoll Fusion is activated, can the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring be chained?
A: Yes, it can. (It does not matter whether or not there is a monster on the field that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck.)
The following Fusion Summoning effects also include sending a card from the Deck to the GY, so you can chain the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to them:
– Rahu Dragon Tail
– Branded Fusion
– Lunalight Fusion
– Face Card Fusion
– Red-Eyes Fusion
– Ancient Gear Fusion
– Ostinato
– Fusion Destiny
– Brilliant Fusion
– Gem-Knight Dispersion
– Ghost Fusion
– Dinomorphia Domain
– Dinomorphia Frenzy
“While the effect of DNA Surgery is applying after Zombie-Type was declared, if a monster with an original Type other than Zombie is Special Summoned from the GY, can I activate the effect of Shinobi Necro?”
Q: I have a face-up DNA Surgery in my Spell & Trap Zone that was activated by declaring Zombie-Type, and a face-up Shinobi Necro in my Monster Zone. In this situation, if I Special Summon a monster from my GY with an original Type other than Zombie, can I activate the first effect of Shinobi Necro?
A: Yes, you can. (Even if the Special Summoned monster becomes a Zombie monster on the field due to the effect of DNA Surgery, it still counts as a Zombie monster being Special Summoned from your GY.)
Also, if a monster other than a Zombie monster is Special Summoned by the following effect, you can still activate the effect of Shinobi Necro:
– Vampire Sucker
“What happens if the effect of Artifact Lancea is activated by chaining to the first effect of Sacred Scrolls of the Gizmek Legend?”
Q: When I activate the first effect of Sacred Scrolls of the Gizmek Legend, my opponent chains the effect of Artifact Lancea. Since the effect prevents me from banishing cards, do I still apply effect “excavate the top 3 cards of your Deck, and if you do, you can add 1 excavated Machine monster whose ATK equals its own DEF to your hand”?
A: No effect is applied. (No cards are excavated.)
Similarly, if the effect of Artifact Lancea is activated by chaining to the following effects, no effect is applied.
– Small World
– Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map
– Duel Tower
“When my opponent activates Enma’s Judgment, can I chain the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring?”
Q: My opponent activates Enma’s Judgment. At this time, can I chain the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring?
A: Yes, you can. (You can activate it even if your opponent has 4 or less Zombie monsters in their GY at the time Enma’s Judgment is activated.)
You can also chain the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to the following effects (even if they are activated in a situation where their full effects cannot be applied).
– Dragon Tail Horn
– Dragon Tail Flame
“Can I activate the last effect of Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous during the End Phase of a turn a Fusion Monster was sent to the GY from somewhere other than the Monster Zone?”
Q: Can the last effect of Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous be activated in the following situations?
● When a Fusion Monster is sent from the Extra Deck to the GY by the effect of a card such as Nadir Servant.
● When a Fusion Monster is sent to the GY while treated as an Xyz Material.
● When a Fusion Monster Card is sent from the Spell & Trap Zone to the GY.
A: It can be activated in any of those cases. (Even if a Fusion Monster is sent to the GY from somewhere other than the Monster Zone, it still fulfills the requirement “if a Fusion Monster(s) was sent to your GY this turn”.)
However, banished monsters can be returned to the GY by effects such as Burial from a Different Dimension, but since this action is not treated as sending them to the GY, it does not fulfill the activation requirement for the effect of Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous.
The same applies to the following cards:
– Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous
– Branded in High Spirits
– Brightest, Blazing, Branded King
“If a monster is Special Summoned and then leaves the field immediately during the same Chain Link, will I gain LP from the effect of Ghost Sister & Spooky Dogwood?”
Q: If the effect of a Ghost Sister & Spooky Dogwood that I activated is applying in the following scenarios:
(A) If my opponent activates EMERGENCY! and Special Summons a “Rescue-ACE” monster from their Deck, then Tributes that same monster, or if my opponent activates Big Welcome Labrynth and Special Summons a “Labrynth” monster, then returns that same monster to the hand, do I gain LP?
(B) If my opponent activates Tri-Brigade Revolt and Special Summons monsters from their GY or banishment, then performs a Link Summon, do I gain LP?
A:
(A) You do not gain LP. (If a monster is Special Summoned when resolving a Chain Link, its ATK is checked when the Chain Link finishes resolving, and you gain that amount of LP. If the monster is no longer in the Monster Zone at that point, you do not gain LP.)
(B) After the monsters that will be used as Link Material are Special Summoned, you gain LP for those monsters. After that, the Link Summon is performed, and you gain LP for the Link Summoned monster. (The Chain Link made by Tri-Brigade Revolt finishes resolving once the monsters that will be used as Link Material are Special Summoned, whereas the Link Summon is performed after the Chain Link resolves. Therefore, you gain LP for the Special Summoned monsters once the Chain Link finishes resolving.)

“Can I Special Summon Evil HERO Neos Lord with the effect of Favorite Contact?”
Q: If I activate the effect of Favorite Contact, can I Special Summon Evil HERO Neos Lord?
A: When resolving that effect, if you have an Elemental HERO Neos in your hand, field, GY, or banishment (face-up), and an Effect Monster in your Monster Zone either face-up, or in face-down Defense Position, you can return those 2 monsters to the Deck/Extra Deck and Special Summon Evil HERO Neos Lord.
Even when applying the effect of Favorite Contact, you must take into account the “1 Effect Monster on the field” portion of the Fusion Material requirements for Evil HERO Neos Lord, so you must use an Effect Monster in your Monster Zone and cannot use one from your hand, GY, or banishment.
“If I Set a Maliss <C> MTP-07 using the effect of Triple Tactics Thrust, can I activate it that turn?”
Q: If I Set a Maliss <C> MTP-07 using the effect of Triple Tactics Thrust, so that the effect “that Set card cannot be activated this turn” is applied, can I still activate it that turn by banishing a face-up “Maliss” monster I control?
A: No, you cannot.
Even if any of the following cards are Set by the effect of Triple Tactics Thrust, they cannot be activated that turn:
– Maliss <C> GWC-06
– Maliss <C> TB-11
– Traptrix Holeutea
– The Phantom Knights of Shade Brigandine
– Infernity Suppression
– Dimension Slice
Also, even if the following effects are applying, cards Set by the effect of Triple Tactics Thrust cannot be activated that turn:
– Red-Eyes Metal Claw Dragon
– Rescue-ACE Hydrant
– Labrynth Cooclock
– Night Wing Sorceress
– Amazement Precious Park
– Temple of the Kings
Other examples of cards with the effect “that Set card cannot be activated this turn” include the following:
– Majespecter Toad – Ogama
– Knightmare Gryphon
– Like the Diabell
– Azamina Determination
“If the effects of Soul of Gaia the Fierce Knight and Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir are both applying, what happens if a monster is Normal or Special Summoned in Attack Position?”
Q: Soul of Gaia the Fierce Knight and Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir are both face-up in my Monster Zone. In this situation, when my opponent Normal or Special Summons a monster (other than a Link or Xyz Monster) in Attack Position, it is immediately changed to Defense Position, but what happens to its Level?
A: The opponent’s monster is changed to Defense Position due to the Continuous Effect of Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir, but since it was Normal/Special Summoned in Attack Position, the Continuous Effect of Soul of Gaia the Fierce Knight will also be applied and the monster’s Level increases by 7.
“Can I activate the effect of Reincarnation Unveiling Mail to Special Summon Number C32: Shark Drake LeVeiss?”
Q: I do not have any Spell Cards in my hand, and the only Xyz Monster in my Extra Deck is Number C32: Shark Drake LeVeiss. In this situation, can I activate the effect of Number 32: Shark Drake that it gained from an equipped Reincarnation Unveiling Mail, to Xyz Summon a WATER monster?
A: No, you cannot. (To Xyz Summon Number C32: Shark Drake LeVeiss using a “Shark Drake” Xyz Monster as its material, you must also discard 1 Spell Card from your hand, and there are no Spell Cards in your hand at the time of activation.)
Furthermore, if you also had Number C32: Shark Drake Veiss in your Extra Deck, you could Xyz Summon it using Number 32: Shark Drake as its material, so Number 32: Shark Drake could activate the effect it gained from Reincarnation Unveiling Mail.
As a result of activating it, you can return the equipped Reincarnation Unveiling Mail to your hand, which means you can now Xyz Summon Number C32: Shark Drake LeVeiss by discarding a Spell Card from your hand and using a Rank 4 “Shark Drake” Xyz Monster as its material.
“Can I chain the second effect of Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon to the effect of True Light?”
Q: When my True Light is destroyed, its effect that destroys all monsters I control activates. At this time, can I activate the effect of Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon to negate the activation of True Light’s effect?
A: Since you activated the effect of True Light and there were no other effects triggered on the field, GY, or banishment, you must check whether or not your opponent wishes to chain an effect. If your opponent does not have any effects to chain, you can activate the effect of Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon as Chain Link 2 to negate the activation of True Light’s effect.
If your opponent activates an effect in response to the activation of True Light’s effect, you cannot activate the effect of Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon in response to the effect of True Light.
“In which situations can each effect of Yummysment★Acrockie be activated?”
Q:
(A) I activated the first effect of Yummy★Snatchy as Chain Link 1, and then activated its second effect as Chain Link 2 or higher. When resolving the effects backward, if I Synchro Summon a LIGHT Beast Synchro Monster with its second effect, and then place Yummysment★Acrockie in my Field Zone with the first effect, can I activate the first effect of Yummysment★Acrockie in a new Chain?
(B) If I Synchro Summon a LIGHT Beast Synchro Monster using an effect that was chained to the activation of Yummysment★Acrockie, can I activate the first effect of Yummysment★Acrockie in a new Chain?
A: The effect cannot be activated in either case. To activate the first effect of Yummysment★Acrockie, a LIGHT Beast Synchro Monster must be Synchro Summoned after you finish resolving an effect that places Yummysment★Acrockie in the Field Zone, or resolving its activation to the Field Zone.
Similarly, to activate the second effect of Yummysment★Acrockie, a face-up monster you control must leave the field after you finish resolving an effect that places Yummysment★Acrockie in the Field Zone, or resolving its activation to the Field Zone.
“If I Special Summon Mysterion the Dragon Crown by an effect chained to another effect that Special Summons a monster, can I activate its effect?”
Q: When my opponent activates the second effect of Maliss <P> White Rabbit to Special Summon itself as Chain Link 1, I activate the effect of Dragon Tail Fymena as Chain Link 2 or higher and Fusion Summon Mysterion the Dragon Crown. In this case, after the Chain finishes resolving, can I activate the effect of Mysterion the Dragon Crown?
A: Yes, you can. If Mysterion the Dragon Crown is face-up in the Monster Zone when the effect of Maliss <P> White Rabbit resolves, the conditions for activating its effect have been met. (It does not have to be face-up in the Monster Zone at the time the other monster’s effect is activated.)
“Can I activate the second effect of Dragon Tail Altharion if a monster is sent to the GY from somewhere other than the Monster Zone?”
Q: Can I activate the second effects of Dragon Tail Altharion or Dragon Tail Gramel in the following situations?
● When 2 or more Monster Cards treated as Xyz Materials are sent to the GY at the same time.
● When 2 or more Monster Cards are sent from the Spell & Trap Zone to the GY at the same time.
● When 2 or more Monster Cards are sent from the hand, Deck, or Extra Deck to the GY at the same time.
● When attempting to Pendulum Summon 2 or more monsters, the Pendulum Summon is negated and they are sent to the GY.
A: Their effects can be activated in any of those cases. (Even if 2 or more monsters are sent to the GY from somewhere other than the Monster Zone, it still fulfills the requirement “if 2 or more monsters are sent to the GY at the same time”.)
However, banished monsters can be returned to the GY by effects such as Burial from a Different Dimension, but since this action is not treated as sending them to the GY, it does not fulfill the activation requirements for the effects of Dragon Tail Altharion or Dragon Tail Gramel.
The same applies to the following effects:
Effects with the condition “if a monster is sent to your GY”
– Agnimal Candle
Effects with the condition “if a Normal Monster is sent to your GY”
– Guardragon Garmides
– Guardragon Promineses
Effects with the condition “if a Fiend monster is sent to your GY”
– Masterking Archfiend
Effects with the condition “if a Level 8 Fiend monster is sent to your GY”
– Dark Spirit of Malice
– Dark Spirit of Banishment
Effects with the condition “if a “Salamangreat” monster is sent to your GY”
– Salamangreat Gazelle
Effects with the condition “if a “Melodious” Fusion Monster is sent to your GY”
– Melodious Concerto
Effects with the condition “if a non-Tuner Synchro Monster is sent to your GY”
– Synchro Zone
“When Ketu Dragon Tail is activated, can the effect of Retaliating “C” be chained?”
Q: When my opponent activates Ketu Dragon Tail, can I chain the effect of Retaliating “C”?
A: Yes, you can. (Even if your opponent activates Ketu Dragon Tail while you control no monsters, or if your opponent cannot apply the effect that Fusion Summons a monster, you can still chain the effect of Retaliating “C”.)
When your opponent activates Ketu Dragon Tail, you can also chain the following effects:
– D/D/D Wave High King Caesar
– Tearlaments Rulkallos
– Dominus Impulse
– Branded Retribution
– Solemn Warning
When your opponent activates the following Spell Cards, they are also considered Spell Cards that include an effect that Special Summons:
– Purrely Sleepy Memory
– Purrely Delicious Memory
– Purrely Happy Memory
– Purrely Pretty Memory
– Philias Diabell
– Wings of Light
– Sky Striker Maneuver – Scissors Cross
RULING REVERSALS
Ruling changes that have occurred this month:
March 20: Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters
Old Ruling: If the effect of Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters is applied to a monster that is unaffected by Spell effects, that monster can still attack and its effects can still be activated.
New Ruling: If the effect of Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters is applied to a monster that is unaffected by Spell effects, that monster can still attack, but neither player is able to activate its effects.
**Note: Effects that prevent monsters from activating their effects have been (since 2019) consistently ruled as not affecting those monsters directly, but rather preventing the player from activating their effects. This card may have fallen through the cracks until this change.
