“If Demise of the Land is activated, how many Spell Counters are placed on Skilled Blue Magician?”
Q: If Demise of the Land is activated, how many Spell Counters are placed on Skilled Blue Magician, which has a Spell Counter placed on it each time a Spell Card is activated?
A: Only 1 Spell Counter is placed on it. When a Spell Card is activated by another effect, the effect of Skilled Blue Magician does not apply, so no Spell Counter is placed on it for that card.
Similarly, no Spell Counter is placed on it when a Spell Card is activated using the following effects:
– Performapal Sky Magician
– Necroworld Banshee
– Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior
– Triamid Dancer
– Triamid Hunter
– Triamid Master
– Numeron Wall
– Ursarctic Polari
– Dream Mirror of Terror

“If my Goyo Guardian destroys a monster I originally own by battle, can I activate its effect?”
Q: If my opponent controls a Normal Monster that I originally own, and I attack that monster with Goyo Guardian and destroy it by battle, can I activate the effect of Goyo Guardian?
A: Yes, you can. (The monster is Special Summoned from your GY to your Main Monster Zone in Defense Position.)
The following effects also meet their activation requirements when if a monster you originally own is destroyed by battle:
– Goyo Chaser
– Goyo Predator
– Goyo King
– Blackwing – Boreastorm the Wicked Wind
– Frightfur Chimera
– Vector Scare Archfiend
– Sunvine Thrasher
– Ancient Warriors – Ambitious Cao De
– Skelesaurus
– Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon
“When cards like Vanity’s Fiend are on the field, can I send Skill Drain to the GY to Special Summon Diabellstar the Black Witch?”
Q: If the Continuous Effects of Vanity’s Fiend or Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo are being negated by the effect of Skill Drain, can I send Skill Drain to the GY to Special Summon Diabellstar the Black Witch using its own effect?
A: Yes, you can. Similarly, even if the effect of Vanity’s Fiend is being negated by your opponent’s Skill Drain, you can send that opponent’s Skill Drain to the GY to Special Summon Trap Eater.
“Can I activate the effect of Graydle Alligator by targeting a monster whose control cannot switch?”
Q: When activating the effect of Graydle Alligator that equips it to an opponent’s monster as an Equip Card, can I target a Botanical Lion whose effect “Control of this face-up card on the field cannot switch” is applying?
A: Yes, you can. (You can still activate the effect of Graydle Alligator and equip it to a monster with an effect that prevents its control from switching.) In that case, you cannot take control of your opponent’s Botanical Lion, but the effect that destroys it when Graydle Alligator leaves the field will still apply. Furthermore, if the effects of Botanical Lion are negated by another effect while Graydle Alligator is equipped to it, control of it will switch to you since the effect of Graydle Alligator is still applying.
Monsters with an effect that prevents their control from being switched include the following:
– Element Valkyrie
– Element Magician
– Element Soldier
– Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4
– Mataza the Zapper
– Blindly Loyal Goblin
– Armed Dragon Thunder LV10
– A monster Synchro Summoned using Taotie, Shadow of the Yang Zing as material
– A WIND monster Xyz Summoned using Lyrilusc – Beryl Canary as material
The following effects can also be activated targeting a monster whose control cannot be switched:
– Masked Beast Des Gardius
– Graydle Cobra
– Graydle Eagle
– Dark Necrofear
– Old Entity Hastorr
– Heretical Phoboscobos
– Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor
– Mikanko Reflection Rondo
– Battle Teleportation
“If Grandmaster of the Six Samurai is destroyed by the effect of Royal Oppression, does its last effect activate?”
Q: When I Special Summon Grandmaster of the Six Samurai using its own effect, if my opponent activates the effect of my own Royal Oppression to negate the Special Summon and destroy Grandmaster of the Six Samurai, does its last effect activate?
Similarly, if I were to activate the effect of my opponent’s Royal Oppression, does the effect of my Grandmaster of the Six Samurai whose Summon was negated activate?
A: If your opponent activates the effect of your Royal Oppression to negate the Special Summon of your Grandmaster of the Six Samurai and destroy it, Grandmaster of the Six Samurai is treated as having been destroyed by your opponent’s card effect, so its effect will activate.
Also, if you activate the effect of your opponent’s Royal Oppression to negate the Special Summon of your Grandmaster of the Six Samurai and destroy it, Grandmaster of the Six Samurai is not treated as having been destroyed by your opponent’s effect, so its effect will not activate.
The above is a reversal. Previously the controller of Royal Oppression determined whose effect it was treated as, not the player activating it.
“What happens if I activate the second effect of S:P Little Knight targeting a Token, a monster that is originally a Trap Card, or a Special Summon-only monster that was not properly Special Summoned?”
Q: If S:P Little Knight activates its effect by targeting itself and the following monsters, how will the effect resolve?
(A) A Token.
(B) A monster whose original card type is a Trap Card, such as Traptrix Holeutea.
(C) A Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster that was not properly Special Summoned.
A:
(A) The targeted Token disappears, and only S:P Little Knight is banished and subsequently returned to the Main Monster Zone during the End Phase.
(B) Both are banished and returned to the Main Monster Zone during the End Phase, but Traptrix Holeutea is immediately sent to the GY.
(C) Both are banished and returned to the Main Monster Zone during the End Phase. (This is not a Special Summon.)
The same applies applies to the following effects:
– Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon
– Sleipnir the Runick Mane
– PSY-Framelord Zeta
– Timebreaker Magician
“If the activation or effect of a WATER monster’s effect is negated, will the effect of Atlantean Dragoons sent to the GY as cost still activate?”
Q: If the activation of a WATER monster’s effect that sent Atlantean Dragoons, Atlantean Marksman, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, or Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince to the GY as cost is negated by Divine Wrath, will the effect of Atlantean Dragoons, etc. activate?
Also, if the effect of a WATER monster that sent Atlantean Dragoons, Atlantean Marksman, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, or Neptabyss, the Atlantean Prince to the GY as cost is negated by Skill Drain, will the effect of Atlantean Dragoons, etc. activate?
A: Even if the activation or effect of a WATER monster’s effect that sent Atlantean Dragoons, etc. to the GY as cost is negated by Divine Wrath or Skill Drain, the effect of Atlantean Dragoons, etc. still activates normally, since it is still considered to have been sent to the GY to activate the effect of a WATER monster.
The same applies to the following effects:
– The effect of Deep Sea Sentry that can be activated when sent to the GY to activate a WATER monster’s effect.
– The effects of Armed Dragon Thunder LV3, Armed Dragon Thunder LV5, and Armed Dragon Thunder LV7 that can be activated when sent to the GY to activate a Dragon monster’s effect.
– The effects of Whispers of the Sinful Spoils, Beware the White Woods, Legend of the White Woods, and Woes of the White Woods that can be activated when sent to the GY to activate a monster effect.
– The effects of Branded in White, Screams of the Branded, Branded Bond, and Judgment of the Branded that can be activated during the End Phase of the turn they were sent to the GY to activate the effect of Fallen of Albaz.
– The effect of Heavy Freight Train Derricrane that can be activated when it is detached and sent to the GY to activate an Xyz Monster’s effect.
– The effect of Labrynth Cooclock that can be activated when another card is sent to the GY to activate a Normal Trap Card or a “Labrynth” card’s effect.
– The effect of Dinowrestler Martial Anga that can be activated during the End Phase of the turn it was sent to the GY to activate its own effect.
“If my opponent activates a Spell/Trap Card using another effect, does the Continuous Effect of Trickstar Candina apply?”
Q: While Trickstar Candina is face-up in my Monster Zone, my opponent activates the effect of Dinomight Knight, the True Dracofighter and activates a “True Draco”/”True King” Continuous Trap from their Deck. In this case, does the effect of Trickstar Candina that inflicts damage apply when that Continuous Trap Card is activated?
A: It does not apply.
The following are other examples of effects that activate Spell/Trap Cards:
– Performapal Sky Magician
– Necroworld Banshee
– Ignis Heat, the True Dracowarrior
– Triamid Dancer
– Triamid Hunter
– Triamid Master
– Numeron Wall
– Ursarctic Polari
– Demise of the Land

“If an effect that states “activated effects cannot be negated” is applying, can the activation of an effect be negated?”
Q: During the turn the effect “● This turn, activated effects of “Subterror” cards cannot be negated” of my Subterror Final Battle is applying, if I activate the effect of a “Subterror” monster, can my opponent chain Solemn Strike?
A: Yes, they can. If the effect of a “Subterror” card is successfully activated during the turn that effect of Subterror Final Battle is applying, that effect cannot be negated, but that does not mean the activation itself cannot be negated.
Even in situations where the following effects are applying, the activation of the corresponding effects can be negated by Solemn Strike, etc.:
– The effect “While you control this Fusion Summoned card, the activated effects of your “Melodious” Fusion Monsters cannot be negated” of Bacha the Melodious Maestra.
– The effect “The activated effects of Pendulum Monsters this card points to cannot be negated” of GranSolfachord Coolia.
“If a Platinum Gadget that was Link Summoned this turn is banished and returned to the field by the effect of Interdimensional Matter Translocator, can it be used as Link Material?”
Q: I activated the effect of Interdimensional Matter Translocator targeting my Platinum Gadget that was Link Summoned this turn, banishing it and returning it to the field. In this case, can I now use Platinum Gadget as Link Material?
A: Yes you can. If it was temporarily banished and returned to the field, it is no longer considered the turn it was Link Summoned.
The same applies to the following cards that cannot be used as Link Material during the turn they are Link Summoned:
– Spright Sprind
– Union Carrier
– Muckraker From the Underworld
– Spright Elf
– Gravity Controller
– Abyss Keeper
– Appliancer Kappa Scale
– Appliancer Dryer Drake
– Appliancer Vacculephant
– Appliancer Propelion
– Appliancer Laundry Dragon
“If the monster effects of Mayosenju Daibak and Mayosenju Hitot are activated, how does the second effect of Mayosenju Hitot activate?”
Q: My opponent controls 3 cards. In this situation, I Pendulum Summon both Mayosenju Daibak and Mayosenju Hitot, and activate each of their effects that return cards on the field to the hand in the same Chain, and all 3 of my opponent’s cards are returned to the hand by the resolution of each effect. In this case, after that Chain resolves, how many times will the second effect of Mayosenju Hitot activate?
A: After the first Chain resolves, the second effect of Mayosenju Hitot activates twice on a new Chain. In this scenario, although 3 of your opponent’s cards were returned to the hand, the effects of Mayosenju Daibak and Mayosenju Hitot were each applied once, so the number of times a card(s) returned to the hand was twice.
The second effect of Mayosenju Hitot refers to the number of times cards return to the hand, not the number of individual cards returned, so in this case it activates twice. As a result, all “Yosenju” monsters you control gain 500 ATK twice, so both Mayosenju Daibak and Mayosenju Hitot gain 1000 ATK.
“Which monsters can I target with the effect of Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill?”
Q: If my opponent Special Summons the following monsters, can I activate the effect of Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill and target those monsters?
(A) A Normal Monster.
(B) A Token
(C) An Effect Monster with 0 ATK.
A: The effect of Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill can target a monster that meets 1 or more of the following requirements:
● The monster’s printed ATK is not 0 or ?.
● It is an Effect Monster or Gemini monster whose effects are not already negated.
(A) A Normal Monster: If the monster’s printed ATK is not 0, it can be targeted. Furthermore, if a Gemini monster with 0 ATK is Special Summoned, it can be targeted. (In that case, the Gemini monster’s effects are negated and it is no longer treated as a Normal Monster.)
(B) A Token: If the ATK printed on the card that Special Summoned the Token is not 0 or ?, it can be targeted. For example, in the case of an Adventurer Token, its ATK listed in the text of Rite of Aramesir is 2000, so the Adventurer Token can be targeted. On the other hand, in the case of a Primal Being Token, its ATK listed in the text of Nibiru, the Primal Being is ?, so the Primal Being Token cannot be targeted.
(C) An Effect Monster with 0 ATK: It can be targeted. However, if a monster’s effects have already been negated by another effect, such as when it is Special Summoned while Skill Drain is in effect, and that monster’s printed ATK is 0 or ?, it cannot be targeted.
“Can I chain the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion to Ogdoadic Water Lily or Ogdoadic Calling that are activated while there are no monsters in the GY?”
Q: When I activate Ogdoadic Water Lily while there are no monsters in my GY, can the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion be chained? Also, when I activate Ogdoadic Calling while there are no monsters in my GY, can the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion be chained?
A: Yes, it can. Ogdoadic Water Lily and Ogdoadic Calling are effects that include Special Summoning from the GY, regardless of the number of Reptile monsters in the GY at the time of activation.
The following effects are also always considered effects that include Special Summoning from the GY, so even if you are unable to Special Summon a monster from the GY at the time of activation, you can still chain the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion:
– Destiny HERO Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer (last effect)
– Ostinato
– De-Fusion
– De-Synchro
– Blink Out
“If a Hugin the Runick Wings that cannot be destroyed once would be destroyed at the same time as another card, can its effect be applied?”
Q: The effect of Runick Slumber has been applied, and I control a Hugin the Runick Wings that cannot be destroyed by battle or effects once, as well as a Field Spell Card. In this situation, if the effect of Black Rose Dragon that destroys all cards on the field is applied, can the effect of Hugin the Runick Wings be applied to banish it instead?
A: No, it cannot be applied.
“What happens if Number iC1000: Numerounius Numerounia is temporarily banished?”
Q: My Number iC1000: Numerounius Numerounia was Special Summoned by the effect of Number C1000: Numerounius during a previous turn, but is temporarily banished by the effect of Interdimensional Matter Transporter during my opponent’s turn until the End Phase. When Number iC1000: Numerounius Numerounia returns to the field during the End Phase, will I win the Duel?
A: You will not win. If it was temporarily banished and returned to the field, it is no longer treated as a turn after the one it was Special Summoned in, so its “●” effects are no longer applied.
However, since it is still treated as having been Special Summoned by the effect of Number C1000: Numerounius, it still gains 100,000 ATK and DEF during your opponent’s turns.
The above is a reversal. Previously you would win the Duel after Number iC1000: Numerounius Numerounia returned to the field during the End Phase.
“Can I Special Summon Z-Zillion Tank by activating its effect after equipping it by the effect of X-Cross Cannon?”
Q: If I equip Z-Zillion Tank using the effect of X-Cross Cannon, can I activate the effect of Z-Zillion Tank to Special Summon it?
A: Yes, you can. Even if Z-Zillion Tank is equipped by the effect of X-Cross Cannon, it was not equipped by activating the “● Target 1 Machine monster you control; equip this card to that target” effect of Z-Zillion Tank, so you can still activate its “● Unequip this card and Special Summon it” effect that turn.
Similarly, the effects of the following Union monsters can still be activated the same way even if they’re equipped by the effect of X-Cross Cannon:
– Y-Dragon Yearhead
– A-Assault Core
– B-Buster Drake
– C-Crush Wyvern
– Union Driver
“If the effect of Performage Trick Clown is activated in a situation where I would not take any damage, will the effect of Performage Trapeze High Magician apply?”
Q: The effect of my Performage Trapeze Magician (2500 ATK) that prevents me from taking any damage less than or equal to its ATK, and the effect of my Performage Trapeze High Magician that makes my opponent take any effect damage I would take instead, are both applying. In this situation, if I activate the effect of Performage Trick Clown by targeting itself, how does it resolve?
A: Performage Trick Clown is Special Summoned to your Monster Zone, you take no damage, and your opponent takes 1000 damage.
“Can I activate Change of Heart by targeting a monster whose control cannot switch?”
Q: My opponent controls an Armed Dragon Thunder LV10 whose effect “● 10+: Control of it cannot switch” is applying. Can I activate Change of Heart by targeting that Armed Dragon Thunder LV10?
A: No, you cannot.
Monsters with an effect that prevents their control from being switched include the following:
– Element Valkyrie
– Element Magician
– Element Soldier
– Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4
– Mataza the Zapper
– Botanical Lion
– Blindly Loyal Goblin
– A monster Synchro Summoned using Taotie, Shadow of the Yang Zing as material
– A WIND monster Xyz Summoned using Lyrilusc – Beryl Canary as material
The following effects cannot be activated targeting a monster whose control cannot be switched:
– Earthbound Immortal Uru
– Naturia Fruitfly
– Tragoedia
– Seleglare the Luminous Lunar Dragon
– Vera the Vernusylph Goddess
– Mementotlan Mace
– Archfiend’s Advent
– Reshef the Dark Being
– Cyber Angel Natasha
– Aiwass, the Magistus Spell Spirit
– Number 11: Big Eye
– Number 46: Dragluon
– Evilswarm Bahamut
– Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon
– Jinzo – Layered
– Gimmick Puppet Gigantes Doll
– Mind Control
– Brain Control
– Eye of Illusion
– Rank-Up-Magic Revolution Force
– Snatch Steal
– Falling Down
– Mark of the Rose
– Comic Hand
– Crackdown
– Trick Box
– D/D/D Headhunt
– Spright Double Cross
– Servist Puppet
Even if the following effects are activated, you cannot choose a monster whose control cannot be switched:
– The second “●” effect of Triple Tactics Talent
– Magic Gate of Miracles
– The third “●” effect of Metaphys Horus
“Can I activate the second “●” effect of Spirit Illusion while it is equipped to a Conquistador of the Golden Land treated as a monster?”
Q: If Spirit Illusion has been equipped to a Conquistador of the Golden Land that was Special Summoned as a monster by its own effect, can I activate the effect of that Spirit Illusion that Special Summons a Doppelganger Token?
A: Yes, you can. Since Conquistador of the Golden Land has a Type, Attribute, and ATK due to being Special Summoned as a monster by its own effect, a Zombie/LIGHT Doppelganger Token with 500 ATK will be Special Summoned.
Similarly, this effect can be activated if Spirit Illusion is equipped to the following cards that have been Special Summoned by their own effects:
– Huaquero of the Golden Land
– Guardian of the Golden Land
– The First Monarch
“Is the effect of Infernoid Decatron negated by Called by the Grave?”
Q: I activated the effect of Infernoid Decatron, and it gained the name and effects of Infernoid Harmadik. I then Tributed that Infernoid Decatron to activate the effect it gained that banishes a card from my opponent’s GY. If my opponent chains Called by the Grave and targets either of the following monsters, will the effect be negated?
(A) Infernoid Decatron
(B) Infernoid Harmadik
A:
(A) It is negated.
(B) It is not negated.
Called by the Grave refers to the original name of the banished card, and negates the effects of monsters that have the same original name.

Man, some of these rulings just feel like backwards logic. The ghost mourner one alone I had to triple take on it to make sure I was reading everything correctly.
It’s due to the “also” conjunction. All similar cards behave much the same way, such as Ice Barrier and Forbidden Droplet.
So for cards like Subterror Final Battle, they protect from effects like Ash that don’t negate activation, but not from effects like Belle that negate activation. And Skill Drain would also be protected against. Awful wording, activated effects but not their activation.
