“If a monster’s effects are negated after applying its effect that changes the Levels of other monsters, what happens to the changed Level?”
Q: The Levels of 2 monsters I control, including Gagaga Sister, have increased due to the second effect of that Gagaga Sister. In this situation, if the effects of that Gagaga Sister are negated by something like Infinite Impermanence, what happens to the monsters’ Levels?
A: The Levels do not change after being increased by that effect. For monster effects that change Levels, effects that can change the Levels of other monsters will continue to apply even if the monster whose effect was applied or the monster who the effect was applied to has its effects negated.
The same applies to the effects of the following cards that change Levels.
– Assault Blackwing – Kunai the Drizzle
– Blackwing – Decay the Ill Wind
– Constellar Kaus
– Cyber Dragon Drei
– Cyberse Synchron
– Double Shark
– Gunkan Suship Uni
– Junk Changer
– Mathmech Multiplication
– Pikari @Ignister
– Primitive Butterfly
– Speedroid Red-Eyed Dice
– Superheavy Samurai Motorbike
– Uni-Zombie
“Can I activate the monster effect of Superheavy Samurai Wagon while the effect of Level Limit – Area B is applying?”
Q: Level Limit – Area B is face-up in the Spell & Trap Zone, and its effect “Change all face-up Level 4 or higher monsters to Defense Position” is applying. In this situation, can I activate the third effect of Superheavy Samurai Wagon?
A: Yes, you can activate the effect. Level Limit – Area B does not prevent battle position changes by card effects. When resolving the effect in this scenario, Superheavy Samurai Wagon is changed to Attack Position, and you add a “Superheavy Samurai Soul” monster from your Deck to your hand. Immediately after the effect resolves, Superheavy Samurai Wagon is changed to Defense Position again by the effect of Level Limit – Area B.
“Can I Set Artifact Moralltach from my hand as a Spell Card with the monster effect of Traptrix Mantis?”
Q: I activate the third effect of Traptrix Mantis and return a card that was Set in my Spell & Trap Zone to the hand. At this time, if I choose to apply the part of the effect that Sets a Spell/Trap Card from my hand, can I Set Artifact Moralltach by applying its effect?
A: Yes, you can. The same applies to the following cards with the effect “You can Set this card from your hand to your Spell & Trap Zone as a Spell.”
– Artifact Achilleshield
– Artifact Aegis
– Artifact Beagalltach
– Artifact Caduceus
– Artifact Chakram
– Artifact Failnaught
– Artifact Labrys
– Artifact Lancea
– Artifact Mjollnir
– Artifact Scythe
– Artifact Vajra
– Primineral Mandstrong
– Silver Sentinel
– Sunlit Sentinel
– Toy Magician
“Can I apply an effect that sends cards to the GY instead of destroying something when an effect “any card sent to the GY is banished instead” is applying?”
Q: Macro Cosmos is face-up in the Spell & Trap Zone, and its effect “any card sent to the GY is banished instead” is applying. In this situation, if my Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss would be destroyed by battle or by my opponent’s card effect, can I apply its effect that sends another card I control to the GY instead?
A: Yes, you can. If you apply this effect, the card chosen to be sent to the GY will be banished instead due to the effect of Macro Cosmos, but Cherubini, Ebon Angel of the Burning Abyss will not be destroyed and will remain in the Monster Zone. (However, you must choose a replacement card from among your cards that are not about to be destroyed. This is true whether or not the effect of Macro Cosmos is applying.)
The same applies with the effects of the following cards.
– Amaze Attraction Majestic Merry-Go-Round
– Ancient Warriors Saga – Chivalrous Path
– Armed Dragon Lightning
– Brotherhood of the Fire Fist – Panda
– Catapult Zone
– Decisive Battle of Golgonda
– Fengli the Soldrapom
– Guardragon Shield
– Ib the World Chalice Priestess
– Iron Core Armor
– Lady of D.
– Marshalling Field
– Number 66: Master Key Beetle
– Orcustrated Core
– Power Tool Dragon
– Pyramid of Wonders
– Sinister Yorishiro
– Therion Discolosseum
– Timestar Magician
– War Rock Mountain
– Yang Zing Prana
“If a monster’s effects are negated after applying its effect that changes its own Level, what happens to the changed Level?”
Q: I activate the effect of Shooting Riser Dragon, and when resolving that effect, I send Jet Synchron to the GY and reduce the Level of Shooting Riser Dragon by 1. Afterward, if Skill Drain is activated and the effects of Shooting Riser Dragon are negated, what happens to its applied effect?
A: Its Level will return to its original value. (The part of the effect “for the rest of this turn, you cannot activate the effects of monsters with the same name the sent monster had in the GY” will still apply.) For monster effects that change Levels, effects that can only change a monster’s own Level will no longer be applied when that monster’s effects are negated.
The same applies to the effects of the following cards that change their own Level.
– Accel Synchron
– Blackwing – Harmattan the Dust
– Cyber Dragon Herz
– F.A. Dawn Dragster
– Fortune Lady Earth
– Galaxy Wizard
– Gash the Dust Lord
– Lefty Driver
– Lyrilusc – Independent Nightingale
– Mare Mare
– Megalith Phul
“Can I activate the effect of a “Danger!” monster in my hand when I have no usable Main Monster Zones?”
Q: If I have 5 monsters in my Main Monster Zones, or if I have no usable Main Monster Zones due to an effect that prevents a zone from being used, can I activate the effect of a Danger! Nessie! in my hand?
A: Yes, you can. Even if that is still the situation when resolving the effect, your opponent discards 1 random card from your hand. If the discarded card is not Danger! Nessie!, the effect finishes resolving there. (The Danger! Nessie! whose effect was activated remains in your hand.)
The same applies to the following “Danger!” monsters.
– Danger! Bigfoot!
– Danger! Chupacabra!
– Danger! Dogman!
– Danger! Mothman!
– Danger! Ogopogo!
– Danger! Thunderbird
– Danger!? Jackalope?
– Danger!? Tsuchinoko?
“Can I activate the effect of a “Danger!” monster from my hand while an effect that prevents me from adding cards from my Deck to my hand is applying?”
Q: The effect of my opponent’s Droll & Lock Bird is applying. In this situation, can I activate the effect of a Danger! Bigfoot! in my hand?
A: Yes, you can. When resolving the effect, your opponent discards 1 random card from your hand. If the discarded card is not Danger! Bigfoot!, apply the part of the effect that Special Summons a Danger! Bigfoot! from your hand, but you do not draw a card.
The same applies to the following “Danger!” monsters.
– Danger! Chupacabra!
– Danger! Dogman!
– Danger! Mothman!
– Danger! Nessie!
– Danger! Ogopogo!
– Danger! Thunderbird
– Danger!? Jackalope?
– Danger!? Tsuchinoko?
“Is a monster Link Summoned by the effect of I:P Masquerena considered Special Summoned by an activated monster effect?”
Q: My opponent activates the effect of I:P Masquerena and performs a Link Summon. In this case, can I activate the second effect of Granguignol the Dusk Dragon?
A: No, you cannot activate it. As with the effect of I:P Masquerena, if an effect performs a Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, or Link Summon, the resolution of the effect’s Chain Link allows the player to perform the Synchro/Xyz/Pendulum/Link Summon, but the Synchro/Xyz/Pendulum/Link Summon itself is performed immediately after that Chain Link resolves.
The condition for activating the effect of Granguignol the Dusk Dragon is fulfilled when your opponent activates a monster effect and a monster is Special Summoned when that effect resolves. Therefore, the Link Summon performed with the effect of I:P Masquerena does not satisfy the activation condition for the effect of Granguignol the Dusk Dragon.
Furthermore, the following effects will also perform a Synchro/Xyz/Pendulum/Link Summon immediately after resolving their Chain Link, just like the effect of I:P Masquerena. Therefore, these Special Summons do not count as monsters being Special Summoned by an activated effect.
– Accel Synchron
– Crystron Quandax
– Formula Synchron
– Garden Rose Flora
– Shooting Riser Dragon
– Superheavy Samurai Fist
– Urgent Tuning
– Exosister Returnia
– Wonder Xyz
– Unchained Soul of Anguish
– Unchained Soul of Disaster
– Unchained Soul of Rage
– World Legacy Awakens
“If a Despian Quaeritis that would be sent to the GY is banished instead due to an effect that states “any card sent to the GY is banished instead”, can its effect be activated?
Q: If a Despian Quaeritis that would be sent to the GY is banished instead due to the effects “any card (or monster) sent to the GY is banished instead” of my opponent’s Dimension Shifter, Macro Cosmos, or Dimensional Fissure, can I activate its second effect?
A: The activation condition is if it “leaves the field because of an opponent’s card effect”, so if the reason Despian Quaeritis left the field is because of an opponent’s effect, its effect can be activated, but if not, it cannot be activated. The effects of Dimension Shifter, Macro Cosmos, or Dimensional Fissure are irrelevant.
“If a Despian Tragedy that would be sent to the GY is banished instead due to an effect that states “any card sent to the GY is banished instead”, can its effect be activated?
Q: If a Despian Tragedy that would be sent to the GY is banished instead due to the effects “any card (or monster) sent to the GY is banished instead” of Dimension Shifter, Macro Cosmos, or Dimensional Fissure, can I activate its first effect?
A: Since Despian Tragedy is banished by that effect, its first effect can be activated. (Even if it was being sent to the GY because it was destroyed by battle, or for the cost of an effect, if it is banished instead due to the effects of Dimension Shifter, Macro Cosmos, or Dimensional Fissure, it is treated as being banished by a card effect.)
“Can I attack directly with a monster that can attack directly while the Continuous Effects of Rock of the Vanquisher or Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax are applying?”
Q: If the effect “your opponent cannot target this card with card effects, also their monsters cannot target monsters for attacks, except this one” of Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax or the effect “your opponent’s monsters can only target monsters you control with the highest ATK (their choice, if tied) for attacks” of Rock of the Vanquisher are applying, can I attack directly with Sky Striker Ace – Hayate using its effect?
A: Even if the effect of your opponent’s Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax is applying, you can attack directly with Sky Striker Ace – Hayate. The effect “their monsters cannot target monsters for attacks” restricts only monsters from being targeted for attacks, so it does not restrict your opponent from being targeted for a direct attack.
You cannot attack directly with Sky Striker Ace – Hayate while the effect of Rock of the Vanquisher is applying. Since the effect “your opponent’s monsters can only target monsters you control with the highest ATK (their choice, if tied) for attacks” restricts the general selection of attack targets, it also restricts direct attacks.
