Assorted updates on the day of the Firegrass.
“If a Field Spell Card is activated by a card effect, can its “When this card is activated” effect be applied?”
Q: I activated Metaverse and used its effect to activate a Trickstar Light Stage from my Deck to my field. In this case, can I apply the effect of Trickstar Light Stage that adds a “Trickstar” monster from my Deck to my hand?
A: No, you cannot. When a Field Spell Card is activated by the effect of Metaverse, the activation of the Field Spell Card will be performed while resolving the effect of Metaverse. (Only one Chain Link is made, by the activation of Metaverse itself.) When a Field Spell Card is activated this way, its “When this card is activated” effect cannot be applied.
Also, even if these Field Spell Cards are activated by the effects of Demise of the Land or Pop-Up, their “When this card is activated” effects cannot be applied.
The following cards are examples of Field Spell Cards with these effects:
– Magical Meltdown
– Oracle of Zefra
– Nightmare Throne
– Divine Temple of the Snake-Eye
– Peaceful Planet Calarium
– Primeval Planet Perlereino
– Pressured Planet Wraitsoth
– Vaylantz World – Konig Wissen
– Vaylantz World – Shinra Bansho
– Therion Discolosseum
– Magician’s Salvation
– Prank-Kids Place
– Union Hangar
– Gateway to Chaos
– Toon Kingdom
– Madolche Chateau
“What happens if Trident Dragion becomes able to attack multiple times, and its effects are then negated?”
Q: Trident Dragion activated its effect and can attack 3 times this turn. Afterward, if the effects of Trident Dragion are negated when Skill Drain is activated, can it still attack 3 times that turn?
A: It can still attack 3 times. The following monsters can also attack multiple times even if their effects are negated after they become able to attack multiple times:
– Duralume, Vaalmonican Heathen Hallow
– Borrelsword Dragon
– Gouki The Blade Ogre
– Cyber Angel Vrash
– Dinomist Spinos
– Decode Talker Extended
– Gunkan Suship Ikura-class Dreadnought
– Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon
– Mermail Abyssmegalo
– Number F0: Utopic Future Slash
– Shooting Star Dragon
– Chimeratech Rampage Dragon
– D/D/D Supreme King Kaiser
– Number C62: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon
– Battleguard King
– Black Luster Soldier – Soldier of Chaos
– Number 107: Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon
“What happens if I Xyz Summon D/D/D Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga while the second effect of Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir is applying?”
Q: My opponent’s Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir is in face-up Defense Position, and its effect is applying. In this situation, if I Xyz Summon D/D/D Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga in Attack Position, what happens?
A: First, the effect of D/D/D Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga is applied, so the effects of Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir are negated. D/D/D Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga remains in Attack Position.
Also, if you Fusion Summon Ultra Beetrooper Absolute Hercules in Attack Position while the effect of Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir is applying, the effect of Ultra Beetrooper Absolute Hercules that makes it unaffected by card effects is applied, and it remains in Attack Position.
“If a monster is Special Summoned from the hand by the effect of Summon Sorceress while the effect of DNA Surgery is applying, which Type can I Special Summon from the Deck?”
Q: The effect of a DNA Surgery that was activated by declaring Dragon-Type is applying. In this situation, I activate the effect of Summon Sorceress and Special Summon a Spellcaster monster from my hand to my opponent’s field. In this case, the Special Summoned Spellcaster monster immediately becomes a Dragon monster, but which Type of monster can I then Special Summon from the Deck?
A: You can Special Summon a Dragon monster from your Deck. After Special Summoning a monster from your hand with the effect of Summon Sorceress, refer to its Type on the field when Special Summoning a monster from the Deck.
“What happens to battle damage if an effect that prevents my opponent from taking any damage and an effect that makes my opponent take any battle damage I take instead are both applying?”
Q: My opponent does not take any damage this turn due to the effect of Dark Ruler No More. During this turn, if my Yubel attacks an opponent’s Attack Position monster with 3000 ATK while the effect of my Nightmare Pain is applying, how is battle damage calculated?
A: Neither player will take any battle damage. In situations where multiple effects related to calculating battle damage are applied, damage is determined by considering different types of effects in the following order:
01: Inflicts double battle damage.
02: Battle damage is taken by both players.
03: Battle damage you take is also inflicted to your opponent / your opponent takes any battle damage you would take instead.
04: Battle damage is treated as effect damage.
05: The player gains Life Points instead of taking battle damage.
06: Battle damage becomes 0.
07: Battle damage is halved.
08: Battle damage is doubled.
09: Battle damage becomes X (X being a predetermined value).
10: You do not take battle damage if it is more or less than X.
The effect of Nightmare Pain is a “03” effect, while the effects of Yubel and Dark Ruler No More are both “06” effects.
“What happens if I activate a card’s effect, and then afterwards activate the effects of Prohibition or Psi-Blocker by declaring that card’s name?”
Q: After any of the following effects are activated, if I activate Prohibition or the effect of Psi-Blocker that turn and declare that card’s name, what happens during that turn / during the End Phase / during the Standby Phase?
(A) Maxx “C”, Necro Gardna, Gold Sarcophagus, or Time-Tearing Morganite.
(B) The third effect of Destiny HERO – Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer.
(C) The second effect of S:P Little Knight.
(D) The first effect of PSY-Framelord Omega.
(E) The third effect of Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon
A: Any effects that have already resolved before the effects of Prohibition or Psi-Blocker are activated will continue applying.
(A) For any of these cards, the effects are applied normally as written.
(B) You will still Special Summon a “Destiny HERO” monster from your Graveyard. However, Destiny HERO – Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer itself cannot be placed on the field. This also applies to the effect of Traptrix Pudica.
(C) Monsters other than S:P Little Knight still return to the field. If S:P Little Knight was banished, it cannot be placed on the field, so it will be placed in the GY instead.
(D) Your opponent’s cards banished by this effect are still returned to their hand, but the banished PSY-Framelord Omega is placed in the GY. Similarly, for PSY-Framelord Zeta and Timebreaker Magician, only your opponent’s banished monsters are returned to the field.
(E) You still destroy all monsters your opponent controls during the End Phase. Similarly, the End Phase effects of the following cards will also be applied normally:
– Spellbook of Judgment
– Chimera the King of Phantom Beasts
– Destiny HERO – Decider
– Ankuriboh
– Bystial Magnamhut
– Barricadeborg Blocker
– Dark Hole Dragon
– Crystal Girl
– PSY-Framelord Lambda
– Majester Paladin, the Ascending Dracoslayer
– Gravekeeper’s Supernaturalist
– Raremetalfoes Bismugear
– Dragodies, the Empowered Warrior
– Card of Demise
– Fusion Destiny
– Power Bond
– Book of Eclipse
– Emergency Teleport
– Instant Fusion
– Into the Void
– Super Rejuvenation
– Fiendish Golem
– Interdimensional Matter Transporter
“What happens if a monster that battles Samurai Destroyer leaves the field, or a replay occurs?”
Q: Regarding the effect of Samurai Destroyer, “If this card battles an opponent’s monster, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step, also that opponent’s monster has its effects negated during the Battle Phase only”:
(A) If my Samurai Destroyer declares an attack on Yubel, but both monsters are destroyed during the Battle Step, can the effect of Yubel that Special Summons Yubel – Terror Incarnate be activated?
(B) If my Samurai Destroyed declares an attack on Yubel, but only Yubel is destroyed during the Battle Step, can the last effect of Yubel be activated? Furthermore, if I choose not to attack as a result of the replay, or if I attack directly because my opponent controls no other monsters, can my opponent activate any card effects?
(C) While my opponent controls Yubel, Phantom of Yubel, and Yubel – Terror Incarnate, my Samurai Destroyer declares an attack on Yubel, and the effects of Yubel are now negated. During that Battle Step, Yubel – Terror Incarnate leaves the field causing a replay to occur, so my Samurai Destroyer re-selects Phantom of Yubel as the new attack target. In this case, will the effects of Yubel remain negated during that Battle Phase?
A:
(A) The effect of Yubel can be activated. (Note that it cannot be activated if another action occurred after it was destroyed, such as if Yubel was destroyed by an effect activated as Chain Link 2 or higher.) When Samurai Destroyer is no longer face-up in the Monster Zone, its effect is no longer applied.
(B) The effect of Yubel cannot be activated. Also, even if you choose not to attack as a result of the replay, or if you attack directly as a result of the replay, the effect of Samurai Destroyer will stop applying at that point, and your opponent can activate card effects.
C The effects of Yubel are still negated. Furthermore, even if the battle ends or you choose not to attack as a result of a replay, the effects of Yubel will remain negated during that Battle Phase as long as Samurai Destroyer remains face-up in the Monster Zone and its effects are not negated.
“If I activate the effect of Galaxy Brave by revealing a Level 4 monster and Special Summon it, can I activate the effect of Galaxy War Drake?”
Q: I activate the effect of Galaxy Brave in my hand to Special Summon it, and its Level becomes 4. After the effect resolves, can I activate the effect of Galaxy War Drake that Special Summons it?
A: Yes, you can. Galaxy Brave is considered a Level 4 monster when Special Summoned.
“What happens if Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir and Nekroz of Unicore are both face-up in the Monster Zone?”
Q: A Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck is in face-up Defense Position, and its effect is applying. In this situation, if I Ritual Summon Nekroz of Unicore in Attack Position, its effect will begin applying, but will it change to Defense Position? Also, what happens if I Xyz Summon Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir in Defense Position while the effect of an Attack Position Nekroz of Unicore is applying?
A: In both cases, the effect of Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir is negated, and Nekroz of Unicore remains in Attack Position. Furthermore, if the monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck is Scareclaw Tri-Heart or Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman, its effects will be negated by the Continuous Effect of Nekroz of Unicore.
The same applies with the following cards with effects that negate the effects of face-up monsters on the field:
– The effect of The Bystial Alba Los that negates the effects of face-up Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, and Link Monsters on the field.
– The effect of Amorphactor Pain, the Imagination Dracoverlord that negates the effects of face-up Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Monsters on the field.
– The effect of Ursarctic Septentrion that negates the effects of face-up monsters without a Level that were Special Summoned from the Extra Deck.
– The effect of Destiny HERO – Plasma that negates the effects of face-up monsters on the opponent’s field.
“What happens if my Sangen Summoning and a Dragon FIRE monster I control would be affected by an effect at the same time?”
Q: Sangen Summoning is in my Field Zone, and Tenpai Dragon Paidra is face-up in my Monster Zone. During my Main Phase 1, if my opponent activates the effect of Radiance of the Voiceless Voice and targets my Sangen Summoning and Tenpai Dragon Paidra to be destroyed, what happens?
A: Your Sangen Summoning and your opponent’s Radiance of the Voiceless Voice are destroyed, but your Tenpai Dragon Paidra remains in your Monster Zone. Even if your Sangen Summoning and your face-up Dragon FIRE monster are affected by an effect at the same time, the effect of Sangen Summoning that makes your Dragon FIRE monsters unaffected by your opponent’s activated effects is still applied.
