Dark Side of Dimensions Anime Card Effects, Japanese Card Text Translations

Did you guys watch The Dark Side of Dimensions in a theater near you?

If you did, I’m sure some of you might have realized two things: The first being that they don’t really explain the Duels and their card effects completely in detail, reminiscent of the early days of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, and the second thing being that despite this, the cards themselves have PSCT on them! Well with that in mind, let’s look at how the Japanese card texts of these cards look like, as they are provided by the Millennium Memory guidebook. If you too would like to see how these card texts look like in Japanese, as well as the Duel timelines and pretty pictures, please consider importing your very own copy (since it’s unlikely it’ll ever be released outside of Japan).

How to Read:

The card text of the Japanese cards are absolutely insane, so to preserve it, the translations will be translating it as literally as possible, with the only exception being Tribute is used in place of the Japanese Release (yes, the Japanese text for the movie cards do in fact use Release despite it being set in the timeline of the original manga). Note that there are random instances where PSCT is used and most other instances where it is not used, this is not a mistake. This is to emulate how the Japanese text uses “correct” Series 9 text format for certain cards but completely ignores it for other cards. Also note that these were not the only cards listed in the Duel Breakdown section, but the other cards were cards that already existed in the game before, like Polymerization, and as such they all used the most recent OCG text, making them not interesting for this article.

(They cannot attack, cannot use their effects, and cannot be attacked or be targeted by card effects.) Destroy this card during your opponent’s 2nd Standby Phase after activation.

(1) This card cannot attack if there are any cards in your hand.
(2) Once per turn, you can Special Summon 1 “Elf” monster from your hand.
(3) When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent, you can draw 1 card for each “Elf” monster you control.

Kaiser Blood Vorse / Kaiser Vorse Raider
(1) When you control no monsters, you can Normal Summon this card without Tributing monsters.
(2) When this card destroys a monster by battle, this card gains 500 ATK until the next Standby Phase.

Continuous Trap
(1) Target 1 opponent’s attacking monster, and banish 2 Spellcaster-Type monsters you control to Special Summon this card in Attack Position (Spellcaster-Type/DARK/Level 4/ATK 0/DEF 0). This card’s ATK and DEF are equal to the ATK of the 1 attacking monster. When this card is Special Summoned, inflict Battle Damage to your opponent equal to this card’s ATK.

Kaiba VS Aigami

Dimensional Duel:

Monsters of any Level can be Summoned without Tributing, but their ATK and DEF become 0. When they’re Summoned, the controller choose a number between 0 and that monster’s original ATK and DEF, and this becomes the ATK and DEF of the Summoned monster. Monsters battling each other will not inflict battle damage. When a monster is destroyed, the controller of that destroyed monster takes damage equal to the stat of the battle position that monster was in.

(1) Target 1 opponent’s direct attacking monster: Special Summon 1 “Cubic” monster from your hand.
(2) Special Summon 2 monsters with the same name as the targeted monster from your opponent’s hand, Graveyard, and Deck to your opponent’s field.
(3) The targeted monster and all monsters with the same as it your opponent controls has their ATK become 0, and place 1 Cubic Counter on each of them.
(4) A monster with Cubic Counter has its effects negated, and it cannot attack.

(1) Special Summon this card by stacking it on top of 1 “Cubic Seed” monster you control.
(2) This card gains 1000 original ATK for each monster stacked underneath it.
