Konami Cross Media Continues Licensing Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!

    NeoArkadiaBy NeoArkadiaOctober 9, 20248 Comments

Finding a licensing partner in 2024 isn’t as easy as it used to be, I guess.

Konami Cross Media NY has a range of Yu-Gi-Oh! series on offer, including the two-season show Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!!

“This series is impressive for its well-written female characters, who bring humor and sensitivity to the program, along with tasteful references to older shows in the franchise,” says Mark Kirk, senior VP of distribution.

Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS features “positive messaging, diverse representations of characters and youth-oriented humor,” Kirk explains.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, “which remains very popular for its nostalgic appeal,” Kirk says, is also on offer.

At MIPCOM, Konami Cross Media NY is “looking to increase the availability of our new series and our strong library of titles,” Kirk says. “We are hoping to identify some new IP projects for review, with the goal of developing them to fit within our portfolio.”

He continues, “We are [also] looking to identify partners who can offer new and interesting ways to engage our Yu-Gi-Oh! fan base.”

“This series is impressive for its well-written female characters” i’m glad they realized that Go Rush treated its female characters better than literally every previous Yu-Gi-Oh series combined ! (and most animes in general while we’re at it).
Definitely a genuinely good aspect to underline 🙂

It’s just generic corporate PR speech. When the TCG release for RD? Or at least proper game – Duel Links is…. bleh.

never more than likely. not because there is an interest but because it would take too much time to try and get NA caught up on the OCG.

Why take a risk on something that might not pan out like Speed Duels when we can just trick kids into squeezing more life out of a nearly decade out of date predatory gacha? – Komoney

If we did get anything it would probably be a digital client like Master Duel, but I don’t ever see us getting physical english cards.

weird statement, but I bought some from japan a few years back, It uses a thicker and glossier cardstock so it would cost them more money to produce unless they were going to just forgo that and make them as cheap as possible.

it’s not surprising they can’t find anyone to license the series for them. it’s bad enough that they hosted it on Disney XD and Hulu, which probably meant the report of viewership was terrible when they were showing this off.

but it being a sequel series and them not having access to the prior one, probably doesn’t look great to tv executives

The only reason for this anime to being popular in japan is the card game in wich is based. No card game , no one is gonna watch it, cause the anime itself is as bad any other yugioh anime , or probably worst.

I mean, Sevens and Go Rush have been the peak of YGO stories since GX. They’re a little silly but anyone who says that as a downside usually tends to ignore the motorcycles or the monkey or the variety of silly plots in every season (and the fact it’s a children’s card game).

Yeah it’s still glorified advertising for the physical card game but it’s amazing despite that.
