[DUAD] Duelists Advance with Advanced new Monarchs

    SanokalBy SanokalMarch 11, 202562 Comments

A new Monarch has risen to shake up the status quo of Monarch business.

DUAD-JP017 Meiteioh Eidos / Eidos the Underworld Monarch
    Level 6 DARK / Spellcaster / Effect
    ATK/2400 DEF/1000
You can only use the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd effect of this card’s name each once per turn.

    (2) You can declare 1 Attribute; 1 face-up monster on the field becomes that Attribute.

You can only use the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd effect of this card’s name each once per turn.
    (1) You can reveal 1 “Monarch” Spell/Trap in your hand; Special Summon this card from your hand.
    (2) During your Main Phase, you can: Immediately after this effect resolves, Tribute Summon 1 monster.
    (3) If this card is sent to the GY: You can Special Summon 1 monster with 800 ATK/1000 DEF from your Deck, also you cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn.

Teioh no Sakuryaku / Scheme of the Monarchs
    Spell Normal
You can only the 2nd effect of this card’s name once per turn.
    (1) Send 1 “Monarch” Spell/Trap from your Deck to the GY, except “Scheme of the Monarchs”.
    (2) If this card becomes banished: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; add 1 monster with 2400 ATK/1000 DEF and the same Attribute from your Deck or GY to your hand, then, immediately after this effect resolves, you can Normal Summon 1 “Zaborg the Thunder Monarch”, “Mobius the Frost Monarch”, “Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch”, “Granmarg the Rock Monarch”, “Raiza the Storm Monarch”, or “Caius the Shadow Monarch”.

Hangyaku no Teioh / Rebellion of the Monarchs
    Normal Spell
You can only use the 1st and 2nd effect of this card’s name each once per turn.
    (1) Discard 1 card; you cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, also reveal 3 monsters with 800, or 2400 or more, ATK/1000 DEF from your Deck, your opponent chooses 1 for you to add to your hand, also send the rest to the GY.
    (2) You can banish this card from your GY; Special Summon 1 monster with 800 ATK/1000 DEF from your hand.

Teioh no Kyokuchi / Culmination of the Monarchs
    Continuous Trap
    (1) If your opponent Special Summons a monster(s) and you control a Tribute Summoned monster: You can banish 1 “Monarch” Spell/Trap from your GY, then activate 1 of these effects (but you can only use each effect of this card’s name once per turn).
    ● Destroy 1 monster on the field.
    ● Destroy up to 2 Spells/Traps on the field.
    ● Discard 1 random card from your opponent’s hand.
    ● Destroy 1 Set card.
    ● Place 1 card on the field on the top of the Deck.
    ● Banish 1 card on the field.

As a note, the text for “Advance Summon” (Tribute Summon) on the Japanese card has been updated to use “A Summon” as a shorthand and the full word in furigana above it, much like with Extra Deck Monsters before it.

Cheers to Eva for translating these.

these cards are insane. The level one monster just reads as a custom card.

Monarchs will always be my favorite rogue deck.

      The trap is hilarious

    3. Daniel on March 11, 2025 4:42 am

These are awesome. Usually I don’t like floodgate decks but monarchs are excused because they’re so old. For sure adding this stuff to my monarch salmon deck

    4. ScionStorm on March 11, 2025 4:43 am

I just want a Throne equip spell for each of the original 6 Monarchs…

Actually, I just want each of them to be playable as their own independent deck instead of all together.

      • Daniel on March 11, 2025 4:50 am

Why? They’re all just a bunch of random dudes that have an archetype together. That’s like saying “I want gusto gulldo to have an archetype”. What would they do on their own outside from what monarch archetype does

      • ScionStorm on March 11, 2025 1:46 pm

What’s wrong with wanting tribute themed decks based around each individual Monarch’s style? Thestalos already has 3 versions of himself, a vassal and royal guards.

    5. Daniel on March 11, 2025 4:47 am

Oh yeah and if you’ve never played against monarch before most of their spells search majesty’s fiend also their field spell locks you out of the extra deck completely

    6. Snow on March 11, 2025 4:50 am

This implies that Edea the Heavenly Squire will also become a Level 6 Monarch.

      • JL-Kun on March 11, 2025 10:28 am

or Level 5 considering squire Edea is Level 1 which is one below squire Edios.

If you use Mithra and give your opponent a token you can search Majestys Fiend with the new spell as well

    11. Venom on March 11, 2025 5:15 am

Since Lightsworn, Cyber Dragon and Atlanteans all receive recent support the next SDR should be Geargia.

      • DrakeShark32 on March 11, 2025 7:49 am

Lightsworn and Geargia are not Structure Deck in OCG, but Duelist Sets

They are Structure Decks only in TCG

    12. Fire King Enthusiast on March 11, 2025 5:26 am

If they wanted you to banish the Spell to get the Normal Summon they could have just said, “Normal Summon 1 Level 5 or 6 ‘Monarch’ monster “ . And if they wanted to limit it add, “…’except Eidos the Underworld Monarch’.”

      • RabbitUp on March 11, 2025 7:01 am

They can’t make a “Monarch” archetype.

It’s like Prophecy, there are a ton of unrelated monsters that share the archetype name in Japanese.

    13. John Stellarum on March 11, 2025 5:28 am

Oh gods… MORE Monarch stuff?! I thought Konami was done with them!

      • CarnageJak on March 11, 2025 5:47 am

They will always print new support for old Archtypes

      • John Stellarum on March 16, 2025 1:06 am

Yes, I know they can print new support for old stuff. That’s why I get so excited whenever Synchrons get something new. (Personally, I’m hoping they decide to give Synchrons some Pendulum support, and maybe bring in Link Monsters as well since Synchros and Links are similar both in playstyle and in theme.)

But… MONARHCS? Considering they’re a control deck, I feel like they should be left in the past. Control is the ugliest, grossest kind of deck in my book. I would literally take an OTK format where matches are decided by a literal coin toss or dice roll than see control decks rise to power again.

How do these work with Thestalos the Shadowfire monarch since it has 3000 atk?

      • Beryblue on March 11, 2025 6:51 am

        We dont talk about him

      • RabbitUp on March 11, 2025 6:59 am

        Did you read the cards?

Or are asking if 3000 is “2400 ATK or higher”?

      My balls got wet…

    16. Blue_Zero on March 11, 2025 7:01 am

These are fantastic but I’m surprised we didn’t get any “Reawakening of the emperor” style effect

    17. atomicnmare on March 11, 2025 8:13 am

smh didn’t have Eidos as a traitor in my book
you think you know your squires and all of a sudden they lead a rebellion against you

      • J. D. Guy on March 11, 2025 9:25 am

Too soon to tell, but part of me suspects Eidos’s rebellion to be a warranted one.

      • Lol on March 11, 2025 2:22 pm

It seems like that the six original monarchs made eidos rebel. They scheme without him and then they are also present in eidos’ rebellion but arent defending erebus. The trap card also has eidos holding 6 elemental spheres which could be the original six giving him power.

In any case, it must be good being Angarm and the special summon monarchs and not be involved in this crap.

    18. Cerayubel on March 11, 2025 8:32 am

Why they had to reveal these at weird time….

    19. Longyuan22 on March 11, 2025 8:32 am

Why they don’t call themselves “Monarch” monsters instead of 2800 ATK/1000 DEF

      • J. D. Guy on March 11, 2025 9:30 am

Because it would overlap with too many Monsters in that have the word/word part/symbol for Monarch in their Japanese names, supporting a bunch of completely unrelated cards. (It’s also why things like “Red” couldn’t become one.) So they support Monarchs by supporting a largely self-contained group of shared statlines.

      • Namesky on March 11, 2025 1:00 pm

Because OCG side never planned to treat them as a proper archetype and used the kanji 帝 (Tei) for multiple other, unrelated monsters. TCG understood that this specific set of monsters is supposed to be actually related and localized it as “Monarch” while most unrelated monsters got different translations.
Nobody could guess that “Monarchs” will become backbone of one of the most prolific and popular decks in history of Yu-Gi-Oh! that will just print money every time it will get revisited and here we are years later actually knowing that it was in fact relevant and Konami must make weird dances around problem made on their lack of prediction.

Worth noting that even “Mega Monarchs” cannot be really turned into proper archetype because in OCG there’s no such a thing and they just slapped various adjectives in front of base form’s elements. For them it’s “Zaborg, The Roaring Thunder Monarch” etc. (which tbh sounds much cooler…)

tl;dr – Konami twentysomething years ago could not predict that strong monsters sharing similar aesthetics and game mechanics will be played together, duh.

    20. Yuto on March 11, 2025 8:40 am

I always don’t understand why Monarch has 2 DARK representatives e.g. Caius and Delg

      • knabepicer on March 11, 2025 8:46 am

        Actually there is also Angmarl

      • N on March 11, 2025 10:09 am

Monarch has several LIGHT and DARK representatives outside of the original six, likely because they are fashioned after the cycle of creation and destruction.

      • Rue on March 12, 2025 7:18 pm

It’s because of the Arc-V manga

    21. TheMeetyMeet on March 11, 2025 9:09 am

This deck definitely has more ways to put out Majesty’s Fiend now.

    22. Mr.Chaos on March 11, 2025 9:36 am

So here is what I think the new lore is…

The original monarchs, tired of bowing to Erebus, meet with Eidos, his squire who also desires power. He reveals that he is ready to claim the title of Monarch and even has gained his own squire… a LIGHT squire who has taught him how to wield the power of other Monarchs. Eidos and the Monarchs march on Erebus and Eidos reveals that the other monarchs are channeling their power into him, giving him all the elements at his disposal to overthrow Erebus.

If he is able to remains to be seen…

    23. HFIL on March 11, 2025 9:36 am

Scheme having to list each of the OG Monarchs is really funny to me.

      • N on March 11, 2025 10:09 am

Konami wants you to play the originals.

      • JL-Kun on March 11, 2025 10:44 am

Unfortunately that doesn’t include Delg, Angmarl, Kuraz, the new Edios, & I assume Edea will sooner or later get their first Monarch form alongside Edios as well as any other future Monarch form with the OG stats & Levels.

    24. N on March 11, 2025 10:24 am

Interesting how Eidos has a Monarch upgrade and was Erebus’s squire. Eida, his counterpart, instead got a new vassal form in Tesera, who is the vassal to The Prime Monarch, Ehther’s dormant form.

I suspect Eida will get her own Monarch form and possibly a new backrow featuring her in the next core set.

Great we got new monarchs before new harpie support and harpies are unplayable

      • narf on March 13, 2025 4:45 pm

I hope that Harpie either gets their own big wave as the cover theme of a set or it’s own structure deck. It really deserves support.

    34. EmeraldTiger on March 11, 2025 9:03 pm

Nice to see new Monarch support, but good grief can we get some follow-ups to Shadowfire? (More Hybrid monarchs) They had something neat going on and then they dropped it like it never existed.

    35. Makhirot on March 13, 2025 4:27 am

The great return of the Monarchs

    36. el on March 17, 2025 1:35 pm

i cant wait for these cards to be released, hopefully we get even more supports in the near future. perhaps just a couple of negates to stop the field from being wrecked with like a feather duster and a raigeki, or something to make the monarch cards more synergistic and reduce bricking from drawing like 5 tribute-able monarchs
