I tried this Saber Combination so you wouldn’t have to!

Strategic Summary:
Welcome back for another Creative Deck Profile, and today it’s time to feature the brand-new X-Saber support cards from Terminal World 3… boy did they get some cool new options. Also, before I get into it – While I am aware that fully optimized hand-loop builds exist now for this archetype, I didn’t want to go quite that unhealthy, so instead I turned to building around trying to make the most of Saber Reflection, which transfers effect damage you take to the opponent. Keeping that in mind, let’s start with the first new option: X-Saber Bruno (YGOrg Translation). This Leve 3 Tuner tutors any Saber S/T on summon, plus it carries a Quick Effect to Synchro Summon during the opponent’s turn. Since it is Psychic, this obviously means Emergency Teleport is now a major starter for the archetype, but since it also can Special Summon itself, it isn’t dependent upon XX-Saber Boggart Knight like X-Saber builds of old to Synchro Summon! The other thing that fixes that problem is X-Saber Perina (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 4 Tuner that sends itself to the GY on summon to Special Summon 2 other X-Saber monsters from the deck.
Now that you’ve met the two new Main Deck Monsters, let’s meet the new Synchros they help you summon. First up is X-Saber Gottoms (YGOrg Translation), a Level 7 Synchro that tutors any Saber or Gottoms S/T on summon. This is key to your Synchro ladders, and it also shares XX-Saber Gottoms‘ material line of a Tuner + 1 or more EARTH monsters, so you can summon it using all Tuners if you want! Then there is Commander Souza, Swordmaster (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 10 monster that can tribute an X-Saber to destroy a card the opponent controls, when they activate a card or effect. Ultimately, both of these options happen to synergize well with the last new card, a Continuous Spell named Saber Combination (YGOrg Translation), that Special Summons an X-Saber from the Deck when you Special Summon one from the Extra Deck. Then, once you’ve amassed 10 or more X-Saber monsters in your field/GY/Banishment, all X-Sabers gain ATK equal to their DEF. Stack multiple copies of Combination and your board will be quite fearsome, ready to wipe out the opponent’s LP in one fell swoop.
Alright, enough about the cool new stuff, let’s talk about the Blackwing engine and why I wanted to try it – its purpose is simple, leverage an X-Saber non-Tuner with a DARK Tuner to make Blackwing – Boreastorm the Wicked Wind, send a copy of Blackwing – Zonda the Dusk to the GY. Now, when you Synchro Summon X-Saber Gottoms using Borea and XX-Saber Ragigura, you can tutor Saber Reflection instead of going directly to Gottoms’ Second Call, since Reflection will be enabled by Zondo when it summons the Level 6 Blackwing Tuner out of your deck, Blackwing – Kogarashi the Wanderer. If you’re keeping tabs, that’s a Level 7 non-Tuner, a Level 6 Tuner, 2 X-Sabers summoned from your GY, and 2300 off the opponent’s LP, only for needing that initial DARK Tuner. Will it happen every duel? Probably not, but that’s where using Foolish Burial and Destrudo the Lost Dragon’s Frisson as a backup plan also helps, as Destrudo also happens to allow you to extend through more disruption to get to your first Gottoms, as needed! Anyways, I hope you enjoy this ‘alternative’ take on the new X-Saber support, and catch you next time with a ZEXAL-supported, Xyz-heavy build!
