Let the tide roll over you and mi! UMI!

Strategic Summary:
Welcome back for another dual profile, this time centered around the Umi Strategy. While there have been many iterations of “Umi” over the years, two have stood out for opening up new strategies – Pacifis, the Phantasm City (PAC) tosses Normal monsters and tokens into the mix, offering heavy control alongside steady card advantage. As for the second, that’s A Legendary Ocean (ALO), which reduces the Levels of all WATER monsters by 1 in the hand and field, letting Level 5 WATER monsters be summoned without tribute. So let’s talk about how the new support cards in DP26 support both strategies highlighted today.
We’ll start with Kairyu-Shin – Leviathan (YGOrg Translation) a Level 5 monster that prevents both players from having more than 1 non-WATER monster on the field while Umi is face-up. Additionally, it also searches 1 Umi, Kairyu-Shin, or Sea Stealth Spell/Trap once per turn, gathering a continuous flow of resources. While ALO builds can rely on ALO itself to let Kairyu hit the field easily, PAC builds rely on the second new card – Physalia (YGOrg Translation), which sends a Umi to the GY from the hand/deck/field to Special Summon a WATER monster from the hand. It also can negate an opponent’s activated effect once per turn while Umi is on the field, offering even more control elements to both builds! Next up, Sea Stealth II (YGOrg Translation) is a new Continuous Spell that’s treated as Umi on the field and in the GY. It protects your WATER monsters from being targeted by non-WATER monster effects, as well as recovering a blocker each battle phase. Finally, Kairyu-Shin of the Reef (YGOrg Translation) sends a Umi you control to the GY to summon 2 WATER monsters that list Umi from your deck, then if your opponent has a monster, you can summon ANY number of WATER Normal monsters from the deck. Both of my variants today are running WATER Normal monsters to take advantage of this!
So let’s talk about existing support, Sea Stealth Attack is probably the most essential. This continuous trap activates Umi from the hand or GY when activated, and also carries an effect to protect face-up Spell/Trap cards by temporarily banishing a WATER monster from your field. Additionally, it gives WATER monsters originally Level 5 or higher battle supremacy, destroying any monster that opposes them. Now the ALO build today also takes advantage of a few key fisherman – The Legendary Fisherman II and The Legendary Fisherman III. III in particular can turn the duel in your favor by banishing your opponents monsters whenever it is summoned, and both are supported by the new Mega Fortress Whale (YGOrg Translation). Enough talk about the decks, be sure to check it out in action and see the splash that the new support leaves in its wake!
