The Crystal Virus surges back with Xyz!

Strategic Summary:
Welcome to today’s CDP, this time focused on showcasing the new Tistina TCG World Premiere cards from the upcoming Age of Overlord Set. If you missed my coverage of Tistina following their first wave, be sure to check them out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvHRVP28oHA and here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPmTi4IUjRA.
The Tistina archetype consists of Aqua monsters of all attributes and aim to set your opponents’ cards face-down before wiping them off the board entirely. As for the new cards, let’s begin with the ultimate boss monster for the theme, Tistina, the Divinity that Defies Darkness. This Rank 10 Xyz monster sends all set cards your opponent controls to the GY when Special Summoned, and, if it has Crystal God Tistina as Xyz material, it can detach a material to gain 2000 ATK. Finally, if destroyed by an opponent’s card while it has material, you get to Special Summon 1 Tistina monster from your GY. The goal of this fully realized archetype is to resolve this monster’s effects as much as possible, so pretty much the rest of the new support aims to get Level 10 monsters out on the field to Xyz Summon Defies Darkness. For the other new monsters, Tainted of the Tistina is the Level 5 DARK Aqua that becomes Level 10 if Normal Summoned/Set, plus it can make a Tistina able to make a second attack each battle phase when sent to the GY, such as your 4000 ATK Defies Darkness. Returned of the Tistina can Special Summon itself from the hand with the same Level as another Tistina you control, and it also can attach itself to any Aqua Xyz monster from your GY. Lastly, Fallen of the Tistina can be sent to the GY to place Divine Domain Baatistina from your Deck into your Field Zone, plus it has a GY effect to punish your opponent for destroying a Tistina Spell/Trap, Special Summoning a LIGHT Tistina as retribution.
Moving along to the S/T support, first up is the simple Play of the Tistina. This Quick-Play Spell Special Summons a Tistina from hand or GY, and it is now your primary way to recover Crystal God Tistina once it is sent to your GY. This also means that you only need to play 1 copy of Crystal God now! As for the Traps, I love Discordance of the Tistina, as it can banish 1 card from your opponent’s GY face-down if you control a Tistina, or it can banish all cards instead if you control a Tistina (currently Defies Darkness) Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. It also can be banished from the GY to recover a fallen Tistina monster. The last Trap is Embrace of the Tistina, which lets you set an opponent’s monster that activates its effect on the field. Full disclosure – competitive Tistina builds can and should drop this Trap, but I wanted to give it a chance in this profile on all the new support, nevertheless.
Moving away from the Tistina cards, this deck also got a massive boost in two other TCG World Premiere cards: Gen the Diamond Tiger and Ken the Warrior Dragon. Anyways, either can Special Summon the other to the opponent’s field in Defense Position, and each carries a different effect when Special Summoned by the other. Ken lets their opponent (aka you) draw 2 and discard 1, while Gen makes the player (aka your opponent) discard 1. To me, 1 copy is Kenough, as you really want that additional draw power. What makes this engine super potent is its synergy with both Triple Tactics Talent and Triple Tactics Thrust, as giving your opponent a Ken or Gen gives them a monster that activated its effect. Whether it is drawing 2 or ripping the key card from your opponent’s hand, this is sure to disrupt any opponent. The last big engine at play in my take on Post-AGOV Tistina is the Armored Xyz archetype also debuting in AGOV, as they serve as another effective disruption tool, with Xyz Armor Fortress searching Full-Armored Xyz to Xyz Summon Full Armored Dark Knight Lancer during the opponent’s turn, then attaching one of your opponent’s monsters as Xyz Material. This newest batch of Tistina cards might not be what you expected for the theme, but they help carve out a definitive niche for this truly unique crystal archetype! Hope you enjoy the Tistina in action!
