Blue on blue on blue on blue… with Fusions?
Replays:
Strategic Summary:
Plunge back into a new profile with the recently revealed Tearalaments archetype combined with both Frogs and Obelisk in this modernization of the FrogNarch classic strategy. The Tearalaments theme is a unique set of DARK and WATER Aqua and Warrior monsters that trigger whenever sent to the GY by card effect. The Main trio of DARK Aquas – Tearalaments Seiren (YGOrg Translation), Tearalaments Havfenis (YGOrg Translation), and Tearalaments Meirrow (YGOrg Translation) – all trigger a Fusion Summon when sent to the GY, returning Fusion Materials back to the bottom of the deck including themselves. Additionally, they each have another effect to mill the top 3 cards of your deck. With these two complementary effects, this theme can quickly throw powerful Fusions onto the board such as their very own Tearalaments Chaetocaros (YGOrg Translation), a Level 5 DARK Aqua which tutors a Tearalaments card on summon. Additionally, it can Special Summon a Tearalaments monster from your hand or GY, then sending a monster you control to the GY. Plus, if it is sent to the GY by any effect, including its own, it mills the top 5 cards – all but guaranteeing another Fusion Summon can occur. Beyond the Aqua trio, the theme also has Tearalaments Rainoheart (YGOrg Translation) to mill a Tearalaments monster on summon, plus it can Special Summon itself from the GY when sent to the GY by card effect. This one is essential for the second and final monster of the theme, a Level 9 DARK Fiend Fusion named Tearalaments Kaleido-Heart (YGOrg Translation), which shuffles 1 card your opponent control into the deck when summoned or when an Aqua monster is sent to your GY.
Now all of these effects seem super fun, but let’s chat about our froggy friends next. Swap Frog is key here, as whenever it is summoned, Swap mills a Level 2 WATER/Aqua from the deck, specifically this will either be another Swap Frog or a copy of Ronintoadin, since Ronin can Special Summon itself from the GY by banishing a Frog monster from your GY. The Frog archetype is chalk full of Level 2 Aquas, unlocking the power of Toadally Awesome, and you aren’t even needing Bahamut Shark to bring him out today! Oh, and it has obvious synergy with the Aqua Tearalaments, no more words needed there.
As for the final puzzle piece of this strategy, we look to stage right for Obelisk the Tormentor to come in with the help of his new Trap – Soul Energy MAX!! (YGOrg Translation) This Trap can be banished from the GY to tutor an Obelisk from your deck or GY, then you can immediately Normal Summon it. This works well for two reasons – first you’re going to be milling a lot of cards with your Tearalaments, so MAX can be easily primed, but the other reason is due to the existence of the Slime Winged Dragon of Ra support, specifically Guardian Slime (a Level 10 WATER) and Egyptian God Slime, a Fusion of any Aqua and any Level 10 WATER monster. With Guardian Slime in the GY, you can Fusion Summon Egyptian God Slime with any Tearalaments monster when its sent to the GY by card effect. And if you happened to mill MAX as well, since Egyptian God Slime counts as 3 tributes for a monster, you have all you need to bring out your big Obelisk daddy. Enjoy your visit to the Ruined Realm Perelreino (YGOrg Translation) with the Tearalaments, Frogs, and Obelisk himself!
