Strategic Summary:
Today’s CDP marks the return of the SPYRAL to my channel, this time in a more pure form. If you missed the first time I covered this archetype, alongside a Scrap engine, be sure to check that out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmTWiqTwU3k
Moving to the present, much of the SPYRAL strategy remains the same – Guess the top card of your opponent’s deck for profit – except now, they have multiple ways to set the opponent’s top card. The tried-and-true way is SPYRAL GEAR – Drone, a Level 1 WIND Machine that lets you rearrange the top 3 cards of your opponent’s deck. But now, the theme carries a brand new weapon – SPYRAL Double Agent. This LIGHT/Fiend monster can Special Summon itself to the opponent’s board, then reveal the top card of both players’ decks. Additionally, while it is face-up, SPYRAL monsters gain ATK and SPYRAL Super Agent (or SPYRAL Tough or SPYRAL Double Helix) can all attack directly. It may be a simple card on paper, but it works well for the theme. Beyond these other monsters, the biggest way to win is through looping your strongest monster as many times as possible – SPYRAL Quik-Fix. This Level 1 monster tutors any SPYRAL GEAR on summon, letting you grab recovery in SPYRAL GEAR – Big Red, removal in SPYRAL GEAR – Fully Armed and SPYRAL GEAR – Utility Wire, or protection in SPYRAL GEAR – Last Resort. Either way, any road to victory goes through Quik-Fix, so be sure to treat him with care. Lastly, since he can discard a card to Special Summon himself back from the GY while SPYRAL Super Agent is on the field, the Danger! engine slots in quite nicely as discard fodder, giving you a chain of discards with Danger! Nessie! or just an extra monster for Link material in Danger!? Jackalope? or Danger!? Tsuchinoko? Envision your double life, with the SPYRAL!
