Creative Deck Profile: Serene Spiritual Séance, ft. Konohana Sakuya

Enter the spirit realm with Spirit monsters.

Strategic Summary:

As one of the unique subtypes of monsters introduced early on for the game, Spirit monsters offered powerful effects at the cost of little to no sustained field presence. Each Spirit monster returns to the hand at the End Phase of a turn they were summoned or flipped face-up, making them exist on the field only for a short while before returning back to hand. While various support cards have removed this restriction, nothing has offered as much support as Konohana Sakuya (YGOrg Translation), a new Spirit monster coming soon in DAMA. Unlike most spirits, this one can only be Special Summoned by its own effect – from the hand while you control another Spirit. Combine this with Shinobird Crane, and you get a draw as well! Or consider a combo involving Nikitama, letting you summon that, special Konohana, link away Nikiatama for Salamangreat Almiraj, then get a draw while still retaining an extra Normal Summon for any other spirit. But Konohana’s GY effect is where the spiciness begins – it can banish itself from the GY to prevent a Spirit from returning to hand. For example, keep Amano-Iwato on the board at the End Phase, and your opponent’s monsters won’t be able to use their effects! Lastly, due to their End Phase effects, today’s strategy is all about old tech options such as Creature Swap or Legacy of Yata-Garasu just for flavor’s sake. Channel your inner peace and join the séance with these Spirits!
