Teach an old Fish some new Tricks!

    Replays:

    Strategic Summary:

Today’s CDP dives back into the depths with the Shark archetype, a group of WATER/Fish monsters that aim to spam out Xyz Monsters. While the Sharks have a ton of tools at their disposal, they’re probably best at having such a wide diversity of extenders that advance your gamestate. You see, Surfacing Big Jaws can Special Summon itself from the hand as long as Spell Card was activated, and when summoned, it tutors any Fish Shark monster. Abyss Shark is similar, just it summons itself from the hand and tutors any Level 3-4-5 Fish as long as you only control WATER monsters. Then there’s Hydrojet Shark, which can summon itself from the hand by controling any WATER Xyz Monster, with an ability to dump any Shark or Xyz S/T from Deck to the GY. Then lastly you have Crystal Shark, which can summon itself from the hand or GY by targeting a WATER monster.

All of these individual Sharks add up quick to a fearsome array of boss monsters, from Number 4: Stealth Kragen, which turns all monsters on the Field to WATER and lets you destroy one via Quick Effect, to N.As.H Knight and Full Armored Dark Knight Lancer, a R5NK and R7NK which both can attach an opponent’s monster as material. I also want to callout Number C101: Silent Honor DARK here, as regardless of whether or not you rely on Rank-Up-Magic – The Seventh One or Seventh Force to bring it out, you’ll still have another tool to attach an opponent’s monster, just this one is quite difficult to be rid of! Given the title, I also want to highlight Number C32: Shark Drake LeVeiss, as this offers both a Quick Effect to negate the effects of an Effect Monster the opponent controls, plus if you used Veiss Shark or Drake Shark as material, it can also have additional effects such as to negate an S/T card or effect.

Outside of these WATER staples, there’s one particular play I want to highlight, since I found it amazing to deploy when testing out this build, and it all revolves around the underutilized Xyz Revive Splash. You see, this Trap has a great GY effect to Rank-Up any WATER Xyz Monster into one that is 1 Rank higher. Ideally, this can be used to Rank-Up any of your R5NK Xyz monsters into D/D/D Wave High King Caesar, no Fiendsmith required! If you want to explore building this yourself, you can even think about testing out leveraging Mermail Abyssgaios or Aegaion the Sea Castrum… or you can just stick to Caesar for now. With that, hope you enjoyed the splash zone, and catch you next time with a weighing of the Scales.
