Strategic Summary:

Welcome back for another Creative Deck Profile, and this time I'm taking on the 'great' Salamangreat archetype once more, and this time in a pure fashion on the heels of its new support in IMPH. I know, strange for me to do that, but let's dive right in just the same. For those unfamiliar with this archetype, the Salamangreat are a group of FIRE/Cyberse monsters that love to Link Summon, particularly using a Link Material that has the same name as what you're trying to Link Summon. For example, if you Link Summon Salamangreat Pyro Phoenix using a Pyro Phoenix, you also get to destroy all cards the opponent controls. Now this theme had a lot of consistency, power and recursion tools before, so let me introduce you to the new cards and how they empower the strategy.

First up is Salamangreat Markhor (YGOrg Translation), a Level 4 option that tutors (or recovers) a Salamangreat S/T on summon. Then, if used as Link Material for a LINK-3 or higher summon, it also Special Summons a FIRE Cyberse from your deck for free. Next is the other new Main Deck option, Salamangreat Bastella (YGOrg Translation), a Level 3 Tuner that can summon itself from the hand, modulate the Level of a monster on field by 1, then when it is in the GY when you Link Summon a LINK-3 or higher FIRE monster, it can be banished to set any Salamangreat Trap from the deck. So yes, this deck can fully get around Droll now to get to both Salamangreat Rage and Salamangreat Roar. The most important piece of support for the deck is a new Field Spell - Salamangreat Shrine (YGOrg Translation), which is always treated as Salamangreat Sanctuary, gives your Salamangreat monsters immunity from your opponent's activated FIRE monsters' effects as well as an opportunity to mulligan Salamangreat cards from the hand. Then the last key new card is a new LINK-3 version of Salamangreat Heatleo: King of Beasts, Risen from the Valley of Flames. This new LINK-3 is treated as Heatleo, and carries a Quick Effect to spin an opponent's card back into the Deck!

Altogether, each of these tools insulates the Salamangreat theme from disruption - outside of its continued weakness to Nibiru - in addition to enhancing its overall consistency. Will this put the Salamangreat theme fully back on the competitive map? Probably not, if I'm being honest, but it does revitalize the theme in a cool way, especially if you want to relive the midpoint of the Link Monsters era! Blaze on with the new and improved Salamangreat strategy!

QNote:This video was the last to be finalized prior to the reveal of the nuclear F/L list at Houston, so apologies if you need to adjust a few cards for new format.
