Strategic Summary:
Today's CDP features the melding of three iconic cards-turned-archetype, and it all starts with Buster Blader. This Level 7 EARTH Warrior received an entire theme of Destruction Sword legacy support back in the day, built to enable the summoning of Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman. When paired with the Synchro Monster, Buster Dragon, this two-card combo led to a complete lock of your opponents' monsters, turning all to Dragons, then to Defense Position, then preventing them from activating their effects. They've also received a new Buster Blader retrain in Buster Blader, the One Who Surpasses the Limits (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 8 variation on the iconic monster that can Special Summon itself from the GY by discarding a Spell, then it can Special Summon any monster it destroys by battle to your field! As for the legacy Buster Blader strategy, the key to enabling the lockdown is Buster Whelp of the Destruction Swordsman, a Level 1 LIGHT Dragon Tuner that tutors a Destruction Sword card on summon... which obviously foreshadows the inclusion of Blue-Eyes support. The Blue-Eyes strategy has long revolved around pairing Blue-Eyes White Dragon with Level 1 LIGHT Tuners, such as Maiden of White or Sage with Eyes of Blue, and today that strategy still rings true. With the help of Mausoleum of White, this theme can Normal Summon multiple times in a turn, plus it has multiple ways to tutor any Level 1 LIGHT tuner such as your Whelp! The latest new addition to this search power is Deep-Eyes White Dragon, the Blue Abyss (YGOrg Translation), a Level 10 Dragon that can be discarded to tutor any Level 1 LIGHT Tuner... and yup, everything is pretty much in play. When it comes to Blue-Eyes monsters, they have Synchros and Fusions, and in particular they have Dragon Master Magia - the ultimate boss monster that needs a Chaos Ritual to use as material... So I turned to Illusion of Chaos and implemented a Dark Magician engine as well!
For the third theme making its appearance in today's nostalgic build, the Dark Magician strategy now revolves around banishing any DARK Spellcaster to summon Dark Magician of Destruction, then leverage it to branch into any Dark Magician support card. Of course Dark Magical Curtain is a great option, but you also have Dark Magician, the Pharaoh's Servant or The Gaze of Timeaus as well! As for that last option, you can always stick to the tried and true Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon, or you can turn to its replacement, Dark Paladin - Wave-Motion (YGOrg Translation), a new Fusion Monster that can attack all monsters the opponent controls then prevent their effects from activating! Unleash nostalgia the deck, by combining the themes for three iconic monsters!
QNote: this video was finalized prior to the reveal of the nuclear F/L list at Houston, so apologies if you need to adjust a few cards for new format.
