Strategic Summary:
Welcome to today’s streamlined Monarch CDP, and today we’re featuring the new legacy support wave in all its newfound power. First up is the new Vassal that’s all-grown-up, Eidos the Underworld Monarch (YGOrg Translation). This Level 6 DARK Spellcaster Special Summons itself from the GY when you Tribute Summon, but however it is summoned, it tutors any Monarch S/T or a Monarch with the 2800/1000 statline. This may seem simple, but this single card finally ties together the Monarchs themselves with their Monarch support cards, giving them enough consistency to finally be worthwhile. The other new monster is Tessera the Prime Squire (YGOrg Translation), a Level 1 LIGHT that can Special Summon itself from the hand, immediately Tribute Summon a monster, AND summon another monster with the 800/1000 statline when sent to the GY. This is the broken card of the new set, allowing you to comfortably drop down to just 1 copy of Edea the Heavenly Squire, but it is especially broken when you add Rebellion of the Monarchs (YGOrg Translation) into the fray. This Spell reveals 3 monsters with the Monarch/Vassal statline, your opponent adds one to your hand, and the others go to GY. If you make them pick from Tessera and Monarch Eidos, there won’t be a good option, and that is the point. It even can be banished from the GY to Special Summon something with the Vassal statline from your hand, eliminating the Edea chokepoint the Monarch strategy used to have.
As for the other new cards, they simply add additional dimensions to the Tribute Summon a Monarch, activate Domain, and pass turn mantra the deck used to live by. You see, Scheme of the Monarchs (YGOrg Translation) just sends a Monarch S/T to the GY on activation, but its more interesting effect occurs when banished from the GY. First it tutors or recovers a monster with the 2400/1000 statline with the same attribute as a monster the opponent controls, then you get to Tribute Summon an OG Monarch. Personally, I feel like this was meant to be paired with Mithra the Thunder Vassal, as Mithra gives your opponent a LIGHT token for you to tutor Kuraz the Light Monarch. Either way, this enabled me to include Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch and Thestalos the Shadowfire Monarch, using both to attack the opponent’s hand while setting up for the Domain of the True Monarchs lock. Closing out the build, I’ve also included the Morganite Spells, as while they do shut off Ehther the Heavenly Monarch’s effect to Tribute Summon during the opponent’s turn, they give all of your monsters so much more oomph that end the duel on your terms, before your opponent can find an out. Bow down before all generations of Monarchs – or assimilate to become their new Vassals!
