Strategic Summary:
Welcome back to another profile, this time centered on the Lady of Lament archetype and the Lair of Darkness support series. This DARK Fiend strategy centers around Lair of Darkness, since it enables you to tribute an opponent’s monster as part of the cost to activate your effects. This ranges from tributing them for your Normal Traps such as Crush Card Virus or Ballista Squad, to tributing them with your Lady of Lament Effect monsters. For example, Lilith, Lady of Lament can tribute a monster to reveal 3 Normal Traps for your opponent to randomly select one to Set on your field. Malice, Lady of Lament can tribute 2 monsters to Set a Normal Trap that is banished or in your GY. As for the new members of the crew, Alice, Lady of Lament can inherently Special Summon herself from the hand, in addition to Summoning back a Lady of Lament when Normal Summoned, in addition to tutoring any of your other Lamenting Ladies whenever she is Tributed or destroyed by an opponent’s card. For the most recent addition, Loris, Lady of Lament (YGOrg Translation) can recycle 3 or 6 Normal Traps that are banished or in your GY to the deck to draw 1 or 2 cards, plus whenever another monster is Tributed, she can Set a Normal Trap from your GY back onto your board.
With this new support, it’s only a matter of time that your deck overwhelms the opponent with constantly offering tributes from their board, so let’s talk about the key win condition – attrition. Over time, as you tribute away their resources, your opponent will be left with less and less options to affect the gamestate. This is perfect for you, especially since you can accelerate that end state with the help of Crush Card Virus and Deck Devastation Virus, both of which narrow down the monsters that your opponent will have access to. If they do get a monster onto the board, turn to the tried and true Mirror Force to deter attacks, as well as Trap Trick to tutor all of your Traptastic options. But this build has a key option up its sleeve – The Fang of Critias, a Normal Spell that turns your key Trap cards into Fusion monsters. Mirror Force Dragon, Destruction Dragon, and Doom Virus Dragon are just a Trap away, ready to be sprung on an unsuspecting opponent. Lure your opponents into the traps awaiting them in the lair with the help of the Ladies of Lament!
