Strategic Summary:
Today’s profile centers around a highly requested archetype that centers around modernizing the use of Normal Trap cards without sacrificing consistency – the Labrynth archetype. Let’s start with the queen – Labrynth of the Silver Castle (YGOrg Translation) is the theme’s boss, sitting pretty on her throne while preventing your opponent responding to the activation of Normal Traps with Monster effects. Additionally, this boss monster re-sets a Normal Trap from your GY each turn, and if your Normal Trap causes a monster to leave the field, she destroys a card your opponent controls or one from their hand. With all effects, she drives home the purpose of the deck – throw as many Traps as possible at the opponent to slow them into a quagmire. Take Welcome Labrynth (YGOrg Translation), which Special Summons a Labrynth monster from your Deck, or Fairwelcome Labrynth (YGOrg Translation), which negates an attack, destroys a card, and sets any non-Labrynth Trap directly from your deck, as examples. Both of these Traps serve as go-to-options, especially while you control Labrynth Labyrinth (YGOrg Translation), the theme’s Field Spell, which grants them both an effect to destroy an additional card on the field. This is before even mentioning that when you use a non-Labrynth Trap card, you get to recover any Fiend from your GY.
As this theme clearly makes great use of Normal traps, let me take a detour to highlight a few. In my opinion, the best Trap Card to pair with this theme is Archfiend Glitch (YGOrg Translation), a new option to destroy a card on the field while milling a Fiend to the GY. You also can make great use of classic controlling Traps, such as Torrential Tribute, Ice Dragon’s Prison, or Dogmatika Punishment. Oh, and did I mention that this theme has a way to set multiple of these traps at once? That’s right, Labrynth Setting (YGOrg Translation) can shuffle 2 of your Labrynth Spells/Traps from the GY or that are banished back into the deck to set 2 non-Labrynth Traps to the field. Beyond all these Trap-tastic options, Labrynth Servant Arianna (YGOrg Translation) makes sure you have all the Labrynth cards you need, plus Labrynth Servant Arianne (YGOrg Translation) exchanges a Normal Trap to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Fiend, such as Arianna! Two more Labrynth monsters, Labrynth Chandra (YGOrg Translation) and Labrynth Stovee (YGOrg Translation), can all be activated from the hand, discarding themselves and another card to immediately set a Labrynth Spell/Trap from the deck. And the final Labrynth in today’s profile, Labrynth Cuclock (YGOrg Translation), can be discarded to activate 1 Normal Trap the turn it is set. Altogether, this theme interacts with the full breadth of Normal Traps introduced into the game thus far… try not to get lost in this labyrinth of options!
