Strategic Summary:
Today’s CDP may feature the debut of the Raise Moon theme on my channel, but it primarily leverages their draw power to support the Labrynth archetype, so I’m going to start there! The Labrynth archetype consists of DARK Fiend monsters that support and enhance any and all Normal Trap Cards, as the theme has a variety of options to set Normal Trap Cards directly from your deck. For example, there’s Lady Labrynth of the Silver Castle, which sets one from your Deck when a Normal Trap Card is activated, or Arias the Labrynth Butler, which can set any Normal Trap from the hand and allow it to be activated during the turn. They also have their own subtheme of Welcome Labrynth Normal traps, with Big Welcome Labrynth summoning a Labrynth from hand/Deck/GY before returning a monster you control to hand. To cut this short for those who already know the theme, the Labrynth have a ton of consistency at getting to your Normal Trap Cards, and none of that depends on adding to hand, making it a great candidate to pair with the Raise Moon.
Now that’s out of the way, let’s talk about this new theme making its debut in the next Deck Build Pack! The Raise Moon archetype predominantly consists of Level 7 monsters that love to draw and be drawn – for example, Cielo, the Veil of Raise Moon (YGOrg Translation) can Special Summon itself when drawn, plus it has a Quick Effect to draw a card during each Main Phase. The best reason to run this engine is none other than Raise Moon Starter Squeeze (YGOrg Translation), which can be discarded to either Draw 1 card or, for the rest of the turn, draw 1 card each time any card is added to the opponent’s hand outside of drawing. Activating Squeeze does prevent you from adding cards from the Deck to the hand outside of Drawing during the duel, but that is no problem in here with the Labrynth setting all of the things most decks would otherwise tutor.
The other big synergy here is that the Raise Moon also have a powerful standalone Trap Card – The Glitter of Raise Moon (YGOrg Translation) – that Special Summons a Raise Moon Xyz from your Extra Deck, then attaches itself as material. In particular, this is perfect for summoning Cielo, the Night Sky of Raise Moon – No More Bets! (YGOrg Translation) to your Extra Monster Zone. Once you do, Xyz Cielo is unaffected by other effects, can change any effect that would add a card from Deck to the opponent’s hand into a draw, and can detach 1 material to draw a card. Oh, and it also draws an additional card when sent to GY by an opponent’s card, then there’s Glitter to also banish itself from the GY to draw a card! Off of one Normal Trap activation, you get 3 draws and a unique form of disruption? That’s enough for me to say Goodbye to Supreme King Z-ARC! Hope your opponent enjoys gambling at the Labrynth when you combine them with the new Raise Moon theme!
