Strategic Summary:
Welcome back to a windy profile, this time focused on the Gusto archetype. This beloved WIND theme hailing from the reboot of the Duel Terminal World has gotten some new tricks since the last time you picked them up, so let’s give it a whirl, eh? Tailwind of Gusto is first up, the theme’s new Equip Spell, that gives them the easiest path towards any Synchro play. Simply equip it to any Gusto, then you can use its effect to Special Summon a Gusto with a different Type, or a tuner, from your deck. This gives you a Psychic Gusto with any tuner you summon, such as Gusto Egul or Gusto Gulldo, often times being Pilica, Descendant of Gusto. However, it also carries a GY effect to banish itself and discard a WIND monster to tutor a new Gusto Spell or Trap. In the case of my build, that’s just another copy of Tailwind, but you can use this effect optimally by discarding Gusto Griffin, which then Special Summons any Gusto monster straight from your deck. Griffin may have been considered a ‘win-more’ card before, but it certainly is essential to the Gusto deck now, especially with the help of Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storms and Wynn the Wind Channeler. The Gusto theme isn’t worth describing without their ace boss, Gusto Sphreez, which makes your opponent take all the Battle Damage from Gusto battles in your stead. Combine that with their ability to float, and this can lead into a chain of damage that escalates out of control.
If you haven’t figured it out yet from the aggressive build, this take on Gusto is an OTK-heavy playstyle, with the specific goal of breaking through boards. If the Kaiju didn’t give it away, look to Forbidden Droplet as another indicator. This is also supported by the one-card Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon engine – the Windwitch archetype. All you need is a copy of Windwitch – Ice Bell, as it can summon itself and a Windwitch – Glass Bell from the deck, use that card’s effect to tutor Windwitch – Snow Bell, then just Synchro ladder your way up to Crystal Wing. And yes, this makes Crystal Wing on the 5th summon, protecting you from Nibiru if you go first! Finally, to round out today’s build, I’m also running a Speedroid engine for more extenders, to keep your plays going even longer and truly blowing your opponent’s gameplan sky high, specifically both Speedroid Taketomborg and Speedroid CarTurbo. Channel and hone your inner Psychic with the Gusto!
