Strategic Summary:
Today’s CDP takes us back to the Gouki archetype, to celebrate their new upcoming support in the Doom of Dimensions core set. The Gouki theme consists of EARTH Warriors that love to be used as Link material, making bosses up the Link ladder up to their four LINK-4 boss options. You have Gouki The Master Ogre, the OTK one that can attack all monsters the opponent controls, Gouki Destroy Ogre, the extender one which Special Summons additional Gouki monsters, Gouki the Powerload Ogre, the unaffected one that also destroys cards on the field, and Gouki the Giant Ogre, which is a bit of a combination of the others. The theme’s core mechanic is that when most of the Main Deck monsters are sent from the Field to the GY, they tutor another Gouki card, giving them access to the entire theme while completing their plays – the new wave of support just happens to take advantage of that!
First up is Gouki Mashin Suprex (YGOrg Translation), a Level 4 Tuner which can Special Summon itself and another Gouki from your hand. Ideally you will be summoning this with Gouki Headbatt or Gouki Iron Claw, as their Level 2 status allows you to Synchro Summon the new Gouki Dragon Ogre (YGOrg Translation). This Level 6 Synchro tutors a Gouki Spell on summon, then it recovers a Gouki monster when sent to the GY. To make use of all the Gouki monsters going to hand, Gouki Sheik Ogre (YGOrg Translation) is their new LINK-2, Special Summoning any number of Gouki monsters with differing Levels from the hand, whenever a Gouki monster is added to your hand. This gives you your first wave of material to make a LINK-4, while also enabling access to the new Fusion boss monster, Gouki The Tyrant Ogre (YGOrg Translation)! Tyrant Ogre is a targeted bomb, nuking cards on the field up to the total LINK rating of its materials, and I’m even using 3 copies of Necro Fusion to bring it out during the opponent’s turn! The last new card is Gouki Fighting Spirit (YGOrg Translation), a Continuous Spell that can Tribute a LINK-3 Gouki and Special Summon G Golem Dignified Trilithon from the Extra Deck, giving you another threat for your opponent to handle.
While these new tools are great for the deck, it still has some gaps that I’ve decided to fill in with a variety of a supporting cast. For example, Kaiki the Unity Star makes an appearance alongside Idaten the Conqueror Star and Raijin the Breakbolt Star in the Extra Deck, allowing for more Fusion Summons and more battle tricks to add to your arsenal. Getting to Kaiki is also solved by the other addition – Prima Light (YGOrg Translation) – a Quick-Play Spell that exchanges an EARTH Warrior for a LIGHT Warrior. The other effect of Prima is the main reason for using it though – it is great to have an extra Warrior Normal Summon in a deck that is so dependent on getting its first two Gouki monsters to the field to have any semblance of plays.
