CDP: Gimmick Puppet – Trap Focused, ft. Puppet Shark & Kochobo’s Hinamatsuri

No strings attached, just a Railgun.

    Strategic Summary:

Welcome back to another CDP, and this time we’re going DARK with the Gimmick Puppet [GP] archetype. This Machine theme aims to Xyz Summon R8NK and R4NK Xyz Monsters, then use Rank-Up-Magic Argent Chaos Force to rank them up into terrifying R9NK boss monsters. You’ve probably heard of them due to their absurdly consistent access to an FTK, and while my build technically keeps that as an option, it’s intentionally designed to be extremely limited in GP cards to enable a bunch of different Trap options to win the duel even if you don’t draw into the FTK. So let’s talk about the core GP monsters, and we’ll start with Gimmick Puppet Rouge Doll. When its in your hand, it can Special Summon itself and any GP monster from the Deck with the same Level as the Rank of a GP monster in your Extra Deck. This is a great starter for making your first Xyz Summon of Gimmick Puppet Fantasix Machinix, but it’s also extremely accessible, as the first time it is sent to the GY, except from the hand, it returns to your hand! That means Foolish Burial or even the send from Gimmick Puppet Little Soldiers is perfect for getting to your core starter. As for Machinix, it lets you detach a material to tutor a Rank-Up-Magic Spell, plus when it is in your GY while you Special Summon a GP Xyz Monster, it can Special Summon itself back and recover a Rank-Up-Magic Spell. In other words, this one card sets up for two R9NK GP Summons.

With that, let’s talk about this special bosses. CXyz Gimmick Pupppet Fantatix Machinix tutors any Puppet Trap on summon, then when it’s on the field, it can detach a material to Special Summon a monster from either GY to the opponent’s field. Finally, when a monster is Special Summoned to the opponent’s field, it can destroy one of them and inflict dmg equal to half its original ATK. Again, not only does this contribute to the FTK, but it also gives you two forms of disruption going into their turn. If you tutor Service Puppet Play with its first effect, you get to take control of monsters your opponent controls up to the number of GP Xyz Monsters you control, and if you tutor Puppet Shark, you can cheat out a Trap card from the top of your deck, Set it to your field, and still use it in the same turn. While there’s of course a lot of other GP threats that this theme has to offer, the final card I want to highlight today is Kochobo’s Hinamatsuri, a TCG World Premiere card that can target a Machine you control, Special Summon itself from the hand or GY, then become the same Level as the targeted monsters. This effectively acts as another Level 4 or Level 8 for any Xyz Summon, and a great addition to the GP strategy! Be sure to watch the replays to catch how to execute the FTK, in addition to seeing the variety of fun Trap Cards in action!

Something wired is happening, it says on the Teaser/lead-in for this article there are 2 comments but when you click the article is says there are no comments

I currently see three comments, mine being the fourth. But this post in particular has been spammed with a bunch of spam messages, so the magic tech stuff may just be working overtime to filter those out, causing load delays.

That said, I did check to confirm no legitimate messages were flagged as spam.
