Strategic Summary:
Welcome to today’s CDP, this time centered on the Evil Eye archetype. This DARK Fiend theme lives and dies off its Equip Spells, Evil Eye of Selene and Evil Eye of Gorgoneio, which give unnatural abilities to your Evil Eye monsters. For example, Serziel, Watcher of the Evil Eye can tutor any Evil Eye card upon being Normal Summoned, but if Equipped with Evil Eye of Selene, it can also destroy an opponent’s Special Summoned monster as a Quick Effect. Or you can look to Medusa, Watcher of the Evil Eye who can recover an Evil Eye card from your GY upon being Normal Summoned, but if Equipped with Evil Eye of Selene, it can also banish a monster from the opponent’s GY as a Quick Effect. These additional abilities also extend to the Extra Deck, as the LINK-3 monster Zerrziel, Ruler of the Evil Eyed gains a Quick Effect when Equipped to destroy a card your opponent controls, or Gorgonne, Queen of the Evil Eyed gains a Quick Effect to negate the effects of a face-up monster the opponent controls. However, all of these effects come with a cost, as Evil Eye of Selene takes a toll of 500 LP each time you activate its equipped monster’s effect, as well as when you activate another Evil Eye Spell or Trap Card.
In PHHY, this theme received direct support in the form of two new cards – Evil Eye Resurrection (YGOrg Translation) and Basilitrice, Familiar of the Evil Eye (YGOrg Translation). Resurrection is a Normal Spell that sends an Evil Eye monster and an Evil Eye Spell/Trap from the Deck to the GY as cost to tutor an Evil Eye Equip Spell. Additionally, if can be banished from the GY when you Link Summon to equip an Evil Eye Equip Spell from your GY to that Link Monster. Basilitrice is a new Level 3 monster that can Special Summon itself from the hand or GY while you control an Evil Eye monster, and it has a Quick Effect during the opponent’s turn to Link Summon an Evil Eye monster, but you can also use Evil Eye Equip Spells as Link Material for that summon! Basilitrice is best when paired with one of its other Level 3 familiars, Basilius, Familiar of the Evil Eye or Catoblepas, Familiar of the Evil Eye. Why? Because then you can Xyz Summon D/D/D Stone King Darius, who can then be used as Xyz Material to Summon D/D/D Deviser King Deus Machinex, a Rank10 Xyz Monster that can attach a monster your opponent controls that activates its effect as Xyz Material. Combine this with the Selene-enabled destruction of Zerrziel and Serziel, and you have yourself the recipe for a highly disruptive corruption of your opponent’s gameplan!
