Oh how the Fairies have Fallen…

Strategic Summary:
Today’s CDP features the descent of the Darklords back onto my channel, after way too long of hiatus, to celebrate their new support and cross-theme support from the new Forbidden Spell! As a primer to this archetype, the Darklord theme is best known for its large boss monsters that allow you to pay 1000 to apply the effect of a Darklord S/T in GY as their own, then shuffle that S/T back into the deck. Whether Darklord Tezcatlipoca or Darklord Nasten, you will often want to use them to search multiple times in a turn with Banishment of the Darklords, summon a Darklord back from the GY with Darklord Contact, or to Fusion Summon with their new Spell, Darklord Dance (YGOrg Translation)! That’s right, Dance is the glue for the new wave of support, Fusion Summoning any DARK Fairy using material from hand/field/GY, or even Darklord(s) from the opponent’s field! What does this new support card summon? Well that now includes your new Fusion, Darklord Eveningstar (YGOrg Translation). On Fusion Summon, Eveningstar sets a Darklord Spell and a Darklord Trap from your deck, in addition to having that S/T copy effect like the other Main Deck bosses!
Now that you met the new bosses, let’s talk about the new massive boosts in consistency they’ve received. First is Darklord Djehuty (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 4 that Special Summons a Darklord from the Deck on summon. Simple as that, this works great in tandem with Indulged Darklord from their previous wave of support. Next, we have Darklord Gulgalta (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 6 that summons 2 Darklord Tokens on summon. Then, whenever it is sent to the GY, it tutors any Darklord or Forbidden Quick-Play Spell. While of course Forbidden Droplet is strong enough, the new Forbidden Crown (YGOrg Translation) gives it a run for its money in certain scenarios, so of course we run both! The last new Darklord card to feature is from 26PP, but Fallen Angel in Darkness (YGOrg Translation) is exactly what this theme needed to round out its potential. Like most Darklord Traps, it carries a steep cost (that can be ignored if copied by a Darklord monster), but when you do, it summons a Darklord monster from Hand, Deck, or Banishment. This is integral for recycling your Darklord Morningstar, so you can summon The First Darklord multiple times over the duel for full effect!
The last key cards I want to highlight may not be new support cards, but they both carry significant weight to help Darklords prove to be a solid strategy. First, Heavy Polymerization is a great new tech card that I haven’t had the chance to cover yet. It Fusion Summons using 3 or more monsters as material, but if your opponent controls monsters, you can substitute material from your Extra Deck. While this alternate method can carry steep LP damage, that’s no bother when you can banish DARK Fairies with 0 ATK like Allvain the Essence of Vanity or Timelord Progenitor Vorpgate! The other key Spell to cover today is Duality, a Quick-Play Spell that Tributes a LIGHT or DARK monster, summoning one with the other Attribute but same Type and Level from your Extra Deck. So, Tribute a Level 4 Darklord, and you get yourself a Herald of the Arc Light. Tribute a Level 8 Darklord like Darklord Superbia or Darklord Nergal, and get yourself Invoked Augoeides. Or, for one final touch, trade your Darklord Ixchel in for a Masterflare Hyperion! Lucifer beckons, will you heed the allure of the Darklords?
