Note – this is my last CDP created before the drop of the new TCG F/L list. Welcome back for another profile, this time featuring the new Chaos Goddess-inspired theme from PHHY. For those of you who live under a rock, ‘Chaos’ refers to a loosely aligned series of LIGHT and DARK monsters that traditionally have revolved around banishing cards, summoning banished LIGHT and DARK monsters, or using them as fuel from the GY for multiple Special Summons. What makes this new batch of support unique is that they tied all of these traditional ‘Chaos’ gameplay hooks to Synchro Summoning with the new cards, so let’s check them out. I’ll start with Chaos Mirage Dragon (YGOrg Translation), a new Level 4 LIGHT Wyrm Tuner that can Special Summon any banished LIGHT/DARK monster. Additionally, when it’s used as Synchro Material, it can banish your opponent’s monsters up to the number of other materials. This pairs nicely with Chaos Witch (YGOrg Translation), a Level 4 DARK Spellcaster that can tribute itself to summon 2 non-tuner Level 2 DARK tokens or that can Special Summon 2 Tuner Level 2 LIGHT tokens when banished from the hand or GY. Rounding out the suite of new cards, Core of Chaos (YGOrg Translation) and Shell of Chaos (YGOrg Translation) carry on the tradition of making LIGHT/DARK counterparts that Special Summon themselves from the hand, following in the footsteps of White Dragon Wyverburster and Black Dragon Collapserpent.
Now all of these Chaos monsters serve as the core materials, but what can they be used to summon? Chaos Archfiend (YGOrg Translation) is the new Level 8 Synchro Boss that gains 2000 ATK during any turn a card is banished. It can attack all monsters your opponent controls, banishing any it destroys, and when it leaves the field by an opponent’s card, it cheats out a Chaos Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck. This includes the OG Chaos Goddess, but it also includes the theme’s new Level 6 Synchro option, Chaos Beast (YGOrg Translation). Chaos Beast only gains 1000 during the turn a card is banished, but it carries an effect to recover a banished LIGHT or DARK monster, plus an ability to summon itself back from the GY by banishing a LIGHT and DARK monster from your hand and/or GY. This effect is shared by the other primary Chaos Synchro, Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon. The final piece to these chaotic puzzle is all the other options you can choose to run to facilitate the Synchro Summoning of LIGHT and DARK monsters. Here I turned to the Byssted archetype (just confirmed for the TCG as Bystial), since Byssted Magnumut (YGOrg Translation) is an easily summonable Level 6 DARK monster that also happens to tutor your Level 4 Black and White Chaos Dragons. I’m also featuring a few other neat ideas, such as Balancer Lord to summon more monsters from the hand, or Genta, Gateman of Dark World (YGOrg Translation), to give another DARK non-tuner when banished. Either way, the rest of this strategy is held together by other generic Chaos options, such as The Chaos Creator, Chaos Nephthys, and Chaos Space, with the new Chaos Phantasm (YGOrg Translation) offering yet another way to recycle banished a DARK and LIGHT monster for further re-use. Embrace the chaotic lifestyle under the wise rule of Chaos Goddess!
