Synchro Summon a ton of Level 12s!
Replays:
Strategic Summary:
Today’s Creative Deck Profile aims to showcase a fairly optimized Centur-Ion build, now that the dust has settled since its original release. If you missed the times I covered this theme more casually, be sure to check that out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62vPFlRAEJM .
The Centur-Ion archetype is defined by its Level 12 Synchros: Centur-Ion Legatia and Centur-Ion Auxila. Each carries an effect to gain card advantage on summon, with the first drawing a card and the second tutoring a Centur-Ion card, and each also carries an End Phase effect to place a non-Synchro Centur-Ion in your backrow as a Continuous Trap. This synergizes with the rest of the archetype that carry effects to Special Summon themselves from the S/T zone while treated as a Continuous Trap! Making Level 12 Synchros isn’t typically easy, but with the two Level 4 in-theme Tuners in Centur-Ion Atry (YGOrg Translation) and Centur-Ion Primera, all this theme needs is a willing Level 8 non-Tuner, such as Centur-Ion Gargoyle II, Centur-Ion Emeth VI, or Centur-Ion Trudea (after it turns itself Level 8). Since they summon Level 12s so well, this theme also has a natural synergy with Crimson Dragon, enabling them to cheat out other Level 12 Dragon Synchros like Cosmic Blazar Dragon or Cosmic Quasar Dragon without the triple-Synchro investment they normally require.
Enough about them though, let’s talk about how I spiced up this build to be even more consistent than the Centur-Ion theme already is! First up is the Superheavy Samurai engine. Typically used as a starter play for combo decks, the Superheavy engine uses Superheavy Samurai Prodigy Wakaushi to set Superheavy Samurai Monk Big Benkei to the other Pendulum Zone, tutor Superheavy Samurai Soulgaia Booster, resulting in 2 Level 4 monsters to play with. It also carries the benefit of giving you both a 1-to-8 Pendulum Scale, letting you get additional monsters onto the field for material if needed. In here, I’ve paired this combo with the Karakuri, specifically Karakuri Steel Shogun mdl 00X “Bureido”, since it is a Level 8 that Special Summons its own Level 4 Tuner when Synchro Summoned. This gives the deck access to its first Level 12 Synchro before a single Centur-Ion card is even played, and since they have their own ways to combo out multiple Level 12s, that lets you end your turn with both of the Centur-Ion Synchros and a Crimson Dragon primed to drop another threat during the opponent’s turn. Hope you enjoy the build, and the pure joy of Synchro Summoning so many powerful monsters!
