Strategic Summary:
Welcome back for today’s CDP, this time putting throwing the Battlin’ Boxer archetype into the ring with its new support from the upcoming FIRE Duelist Pack. The B-Boxer theme consists of FIRE Warrior monsters that live to Xyz Summon. Historically, the boss of the theme was Battlin’ Boxer Lead Yoke, which protects a Battlin’ Boxer monster from being destroyed by detaching a material, then it gained 800 ATK whenever a material is detached. But now, we have much stronger threats. Let’s start with the generic Xyz monster, Battlin’ Boxer King Dempsey (YGOrg Translation). This new Rank 4, when Special Summoned, lets you tutor any Level 4 or lower FIRE Warrior or a Battlin’ Boxing S/T. Additionally, it can detach a material from any monster you control to protect all your Battlin’ Boxers from being targeted during the turn. This really lets you take the first jab to defend yourself, but it also has the secondary benefit of triggering some of your other B-Boxer effects, like Battlin’ Boxer Glassjaw, that activate when sent to the GY by card effect.
This brings us to the new Main Deck effect monsters for the theme, and let’s face it – they’re all better than any monster the theme ever had before. Battlin’ Boxer Promoter (YGOrg Translation) can Special Summon itself from the hand whenever your opponent controls a monster, then, it can be tributed to Special Summon up to 2 B-Boxer monsters from your deck. Should you Special Summon Battlin’ Boxer Uppercutter (YGOrg Translation), you’ll also trigger its effect to tutor any B-Boxer or “Counter” Counter Trap, such as their very own Battlin’ Boxing Cross Counter (YGOrg Translation), or other options such as Flamvell Counter (it has 200 DEF) and Last Counter. The final new Main Deck monster is Battlin’ Boxer Chief Second (YGOrg Translation), which grants you an additional Normal Summon of a B-Boxer each turn. Leading the charge with all of these new monsters entering the ring is a brand new Number C Boss monster, Number C79: Battlin’ Boxer Commander Caesar (YGOrg Translation), which is an upgraded form of Number 79: Battlin’ Boxer Nova Kaiser. Caesar gains 200 ATK per Xyz Material, plus it can detach 2 materials to negate the Special Summon of an opponent’s monster. Finally, if it has Number 79 as Xyz Material, it gets to attach an opponent’s monster as Xyz Material whenever any B-Boxer selects that monster as an attack target! Watch the gloves come off with the Battlin’ Boxer!
