“Unlike the Duel Terminal case(s), this is one of those case(s) where a basic concept is used first, and then the series progress over time. I wanted to introduce a recognizable [symbol/emblem], for this portmanteau of ‘Metal’ and ‘Metamorphose’, for Psychic-Types. And of course, the idea of spoon bending just wouldn’t leave me alone. I figured that if I could turn this goofy idea into something cool, a new design could be born…or at least that was the kind of energy I had while thinking about it. It was great at first though, because if you just straddle on [a spoon] it already looks like a motorcycle…thus began a long penance.”

“A theme combining the twelve zodiac signs and western fantasy. I remember being overly anxious about feeling that if I didn’t hurry up and finish the illustrations, they wouldn’t be able to allot for all 12 of them. I think I drew way too many variations for the hairstyle of Ratpier. Bunnyblast was designed to completely flip her personality while firing her weapon, and at the time this had to be conveyed only in a Spell Card, so I made sure to emphasize it to the extreme, but now that I look at it, she looks super scary, doesn’t she.”
