The spirits of one’s ancestors are welcomed to the world of the living for a brief visit, after which they return to the other world. It’s customary to make a horse figure out of a cucumber (a fast ride for the spirits to arrive to our world quickly), and a bull figure out of an eggplant (a slow ride for the spirits to have a safe trip on their way back).
