Store credit was put up for grabs in this awesome event, in the hopes of helping possible non-OCG winners to convert and start competing in more serious environments. This tournament, held at Robinson’s Galleria, had 76 participants.<\/p>\n

(Writer’s Note: There will almost always be context dumps in almost every article for the benefit of non-frequent readers. You can always just skip to the Decklists at your leisure.)<\/em><\/p>\n The “Open Format” in the Philippine context is just allowing any original Yu-Gi-O! cards in any language to be used. Being a non-Japanese country mandated to use OCG cards, many fans of the game are not happy that the competitive scene involves using cards they can’t read. Open Format events are held sporadically to invite these players to check out and play in a more challenging environment and hopefully convince them to make the competitive shift and disregard the language barrier between them and the OCG. As usual, no fake cards can be used in any of Courtside’s events (evil taunting laughter), and we still follow the OCG lists, the latest being applied last July.<\/p>\n For the usual players, the “Open Format” may have had less meaning ever since Konami Asia has allowed the use of the rest of all the Duel Terminal expansions, leaving every non-TCG exclusive card in the game available to use in any sanctioned event. We’re still waiting for any DT theme to place themselves in weekly Pods, but I was glad to see some DT theme users in this event (though sadly they’ve not come up top).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n (Context dump ends.
