\nThe purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive list of Spell Cards that Mystical Refpanel can be used against (or with). Mystical Refpanel is one of the oldest cards in this game. It has only ever been printed once in each the OCG and TCG, has one of the most vaguely-worded effects in the game, and only a handful of rulings that give us a general idea of which cards it interacts with.<\/p>\n

Mystical Refpanel<\/strong>
\nNormal Trap
\nActivate only when a Spell Card that targets 1 player is activated. The effect of that Spell Card is applied to the other player instead.<\/p>\n

“Targeting a player” is somewhat of an absurd notion, and Mystical Refpanel is the only card that uses that terminology, for lack of anything better. Cards that are considered to target 1 player have very basic effects that fall under a few general categories: Gaining Life Points, inflicting damage, drawing cards, and discarding\/shuffling cards from the hand, among some other miscellaneous effects. Something not mentioned on the card itself (but covered by rulings) is that it can only be chained to a Normal or Quick-Play Spell Card’s activation, and not the activation of any Continuous, Field, Equip, or Ritual Spell Card, or the effect of a Spell (such as the second effect of Miracle Synchro Fusion).* But memorizing these rules defeats the purpose of this article, so here are the lists.<\/p>\n

*Note: This card’s Japanese text on Master Duel was updated on May 7, 2024 to specify that it can only respond to a Normal or Quick-Play Spell Card’s activation. This text also uses terminology closer to “applies to 1 player” rather than “targets 1 player”.<\/p>\n

Other Information<\/strong><\/p>\n

As mentioned earlier, the cards listed above have the same basic effects (Life Point changes, drawing, etc.), but if you’re wondering why certain cards aren’t listed that you feel should be, these are things that prevent a card from interacting with it.<\/p>\n

\u25cf Spells that affect both players, such as Upstart Goblin or Card of Demise.
\n\u25cf Spells that target a card, Special Summon monsters, or affect specific cards, such as Burning Draw or Raigeki.
\n\u25cf Spells that search a card from your Deck or send a card from your Deck to the Graveyard, such as Reinforcement of the Army or Foolish Burial.
\n\u25cf Spells that do not apply any effects when they resolve, such as Super Rejuvenation or Frozen Rose.
\n\u25cf Any Continuous, Field, Equip, or Ritual Spell, any Spell effect, or the activation of a Pendulum Monster as a Spell.
\n\u25cf Mystical Refpanel cannot be activated during the Damage Step, so it cannot be used against Spells such as Sebek’s Blessing or the drawing effect of Crusadia Testament.<\/p>\n

Remember that Mystical Refpanel only switches the effect of the Spell to the other player, but any of the Spell’s costs will always be paid by the activating player beforehand, and any conditions associated with activating that Spell Card are not switched. So, if you chain Mystical Refpanel to your opponent’s Pot of Duality, you perform the excavating and adding effect, but your opponent is still the one who cannot Special Summon that turn (or activate another copy of Pot of Duality). If you chain Mystical Refpanel to your opponent’s Pot of Desires, your opponent will have already paid the cost of banishing 10 cards, but when it resolves, you draw 2 cards without having to banish anything.<\/p>\n

As a final note: The Spell effect is still treated as one performed by the original activating player. If you chain Mystical Refpanel to your opponent’s Graceful Charity, you will draw 3 cards and discard 2, but those cards are still treated as being discarded by your opponent’s Graceful Charity (for the purposes of “Dark World” monsters, etc.), not your own Mystical Refpanel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
